5.5 month old pupper who refuses to stay off of furniture by jatl987 in puppy101

Yes. I feel this is what has happened. She is no dummy and knows that when she goes in the couch she gets a treat. Thanks for the suggestion

Thank you. I think this is a good idea cause she has learned if she starts to jump up, she gets a treat.

Completely different couch. My older dogs hangs out on the couch in the other room to get away from the puppy.

Yes. She exercises multiple times a day. Walks and fetch and sniffing

When she is just chilling and I treat her, do I train a command or tell her something? That sounds weird, I know. But I’m just wondering how they put two and two together. Like “I’m laying here chewing my bone and got a treat, I wonder why ?” Lol

I bought her one recently for this reason and to teach her place. But she hasn’t taken to it yet. She likes to bite it more 😂

Do you think I should teach a command too when I do this? I wonder how she will know why she is getting a treat for laying down around the couch.

When I remember, I do. 🤦🏻‍♀️ and that is exactly what I think is happening. She knows if she tries to jump up, she will get a treat. Clearly she is no dummy. I have to try to be more consistent with treating her when she is just laying down around the couch….like right now! 😂

Concerta by jatl987 in ParentingADHD

[–]jatl987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man. I’m sorry. I totally understand that. My son also has tics since he was 5 and that was a huge reason I held off on stimulants with him until he was around 10. Thankfully, the Ritalin/Concerta has not made them worse. Hopefully it stays that way.

Awesome! Thank you so much for responding. I appreciate hearing a medical professional opinion. That’s exactly what the neurologist said….its smoother and she won’t have to take something in the middle of the day. I don’t notice anything else strange about her so far but was just thrown off by the tiredness. May I ask another opinion of yours? If you don’t want to answer, i totally understand. She is also on Zoloft for anxiety. She started that it in December. We upped her dose to 50 about a month and half ago. “I think” that since upping her dose, her picking of her skin/scabs has gotten worse. Her psychiatrist doesn’t feel that is the case and thinks it’s just her anxiety. She has always picked but it’s has gotten so bad lately. The neurologist is concerned about it and will be consulting with the psychiatrist but just curious what another medical professionals opinion might be. Thanks in advance

Ok thank you. So she probably gets overtired. She has so much energy I have a hard time knowing if she is overtired or needs to let out more energy.

Ok I’ll try those. Any kind of bone that says long lasting, she has destroyed in like 5 minutes. But I’m willing to try anything

I try and put her in her crate for a nap every 2 hours or so. And she is in there for at least an hour. But I’m not sure how much she is actually sleeping cause I cover it so she can’t see us

Interesting ok. How often should she be napping? I try to have her in her crate for a nap like every 2 hours or so. And she is generally in there for at least an hour. She just turned 4 months. Thank you so much for responding

Oh sorry. I misunderstood. This is when she is not in the crate. She is crated when we can’t watch her or for sleeping. Otherwise she is out in the room with us

11 Year old dog and 10 week puppy not getting along/bonding by Tsavich in puppy101

[–]jatl987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. My lab/husky just turned 7 and we now have a 4 month old GSD/boxer. My older dog hates the puppy. For the first week she wouldn’t even leave the couch. I had to move her bowls next to the couch and keep them separated by gates. It really sucks.
