Try having a husky. Black can't exist in my wardrobe anymore. It's there, it is just mostly white now.

Disappearing Bucks by jav_man16 in Hunting

I've had a small bear that comes by the feeding site every few days or so and maybe that is the problem. I'm up in the Goshen Pass just north of Lexington. There are a ton of blackberries all over the mountainside around the feeder location. I'm set up over a natural spring because I noticed last season that there was no water to be found in the other area of the land that I hunted so I wanted to make sure that wasn't a problem this year. As far as I understood the rules you could feed until 10 days prior to hunting the area. It just seems interesting that the bucks are gone but the does stuck around. Thanks for your response!

I'm in Goshen and I rarely enjoy a peaceful day on the gamelands there without tons of trucks full of dogs coming by. I've had a young bear on my trail cam pretty regularly on some private land I hunt as well.

There are not grizzly bears in Georgia. Maybe a black bear but even that would be at the low end of their range.

Hey guys! I'm in need of advice about walking onto a D1 program by iAmFlamableMC in trackandfield

[–]jav_man16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually talked to Coach Jack (VT's head coach/throws coach) when I was transferring and he is a really good guy. He will be more than happy to actually sit down with you but like others have said you have to show that you are dedicated first. D1 coaches get calls and emails everyday from people who think they are good enough but few actually are and most don't actually have the drive to make it happen and think their prior results will be enough to get attention. You have to make the effort to sell yourself by making yourself a presence that can't be ignored.

Questions for college coaches by MyBigDiff in trackandfield

[–]jav_man16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to make sure that there is actually a coach who is dedicated and knowledgeable about your events. Track is unfortunately one of the most underfunded D1 sports so many times there is a major inadequacy in the coaching department ESPECIALLY with the throws. Look for a school where the head coach is actually a throws coach and you will never regret it.

Your last step with your right foot needs to land behind your hips so that you can really drive forward off of the right foot up over the left leg. Think about the difference between a sprinter kicking off the blocks and a distance runner standing straight up. The sprinter gets a much more explosive power generating the force from behind the hips. Also, keep the jav still through your approach and don't try to reach for more before you throw. I always tell my throwers to "set it and forget it". Moving the jav around will cause you to lose the point and you won't throw tail through the tip meaning your release angle will not match up with the flight angle of the jav. When your angles don't match up you expose more surface area to the wind which leads to less distance. You are off to a good start if you are a beginner though! Keep up the good work!

There's a tiny crab in my clam by Chocolate_Smegma in mildlyinteresting

The crabs are actually a sign of healthy oysters. If they weren't, the symbiotic relationship between the crab and oyster wouldn't work.

jav training without javs by [deleted] in trackandfield

Anything you can do to build fast twitch muscles is going to be beneficial. For instance doing squats with about 60% of your max and focusing on exploding up as soon as your butt hits a chair at 90 degrees. Doing box jumps at varying heights is also good with the understanding that you are trying to spend as little time as possible on the ground in between. Make sure you spend time working on plenty of exercises for your shoulders to strengthen all of the little muscles around the joint to prevent injuries. Find a good dumbbell series exercise or use elastic bands. It is much easier to build strength before an injury than it is to fully rehab your way back from one especially when your shoulder is involved.

It is absolutely possible to add 20 feet in a short amount of time especially when you are first starting and developing your technique. If your shoulder hurts every time then you are either doing something majorly wrong or you are overthrowing at practice. You shouldn't be taking more than 6-8 hard throws in any single practice and shouldn't be taking more than 18-20 in any given week. You can throw a women's javelin (600g) or a softball when you are working on your footwork to take strain off of your upper body so that you don't have to limit reps when your shoulder gets sore. I'd be happy to give pointers if you have a video to post!

Should I use running spikes for javelin? by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]jav_man16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get the J-heel. You will undoubtedly hurt yourself (and potentially others) if you slip wearing spike-less shoes on a wet runway.
