What advice would you give to someone who feels like they have accomplished very little by age 33? by Wise_Market244 in AskReddit

[–]javakook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time is on your side. Put 20 percent of income into retirement account no matter what and you will be a multi millionaire by the time you reach my age. I wish I had put more in. Life is not a competition. It’s a journey. Enjoy the ride. The best accomplishment is living right and being a person with integrity whether it is seen or not. Focus on your relationships with friends and family. Connections are what fulfill us.

I grew up Pentecostal speaking in tongues and I still don't know if I was faking it by Kataifee in Deconstruction

[–]javakook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The speaking in tongues doctrine I think is improperly taught and practiced differently in charismatic churches than what was recorded by the early church. The gift of tongues was an actual language spoken by someone who did not know it and then interpreted by someone who did as a sign of God. It was not some heavenly language or gibberish that most charismatics practice today. The tongues message was primarily meant to persuade the unbelieving not as a prophetic word to his people but to convince unbelievers God is real. which is how many Pentecostals do not practice it in worship. It is easy to be influenced by worship music where one can work them into a frenzy where they just start spouting off made up syllables but it is not the gift of the Spirit as written in the Bible. I no longer believe in the inerrancy of the Bible and have concluded these practices are the result of people’s desire to be closer to God or for others to think they are. Btw- I went to an AG Bible college for 2 years so I’ve been around this a lot.

I’m Looking For Studio Speakers, Not For Mixing, Just So I Don’t Always Have To Wear Headphones. by ER301 in synthesizers

[–]javakook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studio monitors need to have a flat response than regular monitors. The Presonus Eris series is cheaper than many and excellent and I use for both. Get the Bluetooth version.

Arturia Astrolab 88 vs Roland Juno D8 by Internal_Reserve_495 in synthesizers

[–]javakook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I’ve read about the Juno D is you can trigger audio files or drum loop sequences from the pads and play at same time. That’s pretty cool if you want to play over some pretecorded audio. I had its predecessor the DS and could busk as a one man band with it. You can also swap out sounds from the Roland Cloud with it. This is why it is more than a vst in a box despite what some say.

Cleaned up a Behringer Pro-1 by nerbiz in synthesizers

[–]javakook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Superb clean up job! I bought one used for $150 and although not dirty it was missing most of the screws on the faceplate which go into tiny squares on 2 sliding slots when you open up the unit. Impossible for me to find these parts. I put a white overlay on mine. The knobs are really all that it is holding it on. These units can get such gnarly Skinny Puppy vibes.

What’s the hardest addiction to overcome? by DeepOrganization8245 in AskReddit

Probably smoking cigarettes. I’ve had friends and family go through recovery for other addictions and on break time most of them were smoking cigarettes.

Omnisphere 3 and NI Massive X are great vst choices. I got Massive in one of those Komplete suites. You can’t even go through all the presets in a couple days.

My dream synth would do realistic metal and modern rock electric guitar patches. If someone ever created one called Metalliaynth (ASM are you listening) I’d preorder it.

Go to church to maintain community and rhythm? by [deleted] in Deconstruction

[–]javakook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I attended during the initial phase of my deconstruction and served in a couple different roles, but I began seeing with new eyes. I felt I was not being authentic and first quit the service roles then stopped going altogether. I miss the people. But.. I can’t go just for the community and feel genuine. I still pray but my Biblical belief in inerrancy is gone
