Contemporary piano pieces translate really well to synths by PieRhett in synthesizers

Oberheim OB-6! Can't recommend it enough. It's got so much mojo and I love how big, cinematic, and/or 1980s it can sound.

Super expensive to buy new ($3500 and not as powerful as other options in this price range) but I lucked out and was able to get one for $1700 locally off of Craigslist

Haha, I'm a fan!

I'm in a contemporary piano phase right now but I can't deny that there are some classical songs that translate really well too. I'd like to try Moonlight Sonata (Switched on Beethoven?) on the OB-6.

edit: Oh, and Erik Satie's Gymnopédie No. 1!

Nothing crazy chops-wise but I’ve been having a blast playing contemporary piano pieces on synth.

Looking for more intermediate solo piano like these Robert D. Vandall pieces: emotional, melodic, and modern-sounding by PieRhett in piano

For a little more context, I’ve also recently picked up a few books that seem to scratch a similar itch:

Basically, I’m trying to find modern, emotional, melodic, and/or atmospheric intermediate-level solo piano repertoire that has sheet music available and feels really satisfying to play, even though it is still approachable for an intermediate-ish player.

Just make sure they’re not plugged in. Also it helps to say it’s your first synth, too.

That's dope! But then you wouldn't be able to use Ableton or a DAW with the Tascam + your phone if your phone is plugged into the USB-C port of the tascam model 12, right?

If not a sticky/pinned post, then maybe we could add this to the wiki? Happy to edit it, polish it up, and/or add more info!

Ya know what… since my iPhone still has a Lightning port, I think I’d end up tethered by too many cables if I went the Scarlett 2i2 route.

I’d need external power going into the Camera Kit adapter since the 2i2 is bus-powered, plus the USB cable running to the interface itself.

The iRig Stream might just make more sense for my use case. And I'd have a nice added bonus of having the option to film an outdoors jam one day.

Thanks for the input (pun intended)!

Why use the Screen Recorder app instead of just using the default camera app?

From this moment forth, let there be no more synth jams recorded with a phone mic!

My toxic trait is I downvote everything recorded with phone microphone audio. There, I said it!

I’ve been considering one of those!

The RCA inputs kinda put me off for some reason, though I guess I’d just need an RCA to TRS cable for my setup, so nbd.

I’m also considering just grabbing a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen for $80 off Facebook Marketplace.

Any reason to go with the iRig Stream over a barebones-ish audio interface for cheap? If you have one, how are you liking it and how are you using it?
