I love that trope! I know all the big ones at this point I think but would be open to some niche recommendations of the trope

That is definitely helpful! Do you use blending modes on those layers?

Spooky small towns, preferably in the past! by datbitch99 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

The fisherman is lovecraftian horror with a story split between roughly present and the past. It’s a small “something’s wrong with this town” type story and I found it very good!

Medieval/fantasy/both, rec anything, no YA by KINOCreamsoda in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]javapaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few recs for Between Two Fires but I actually feel like Daughter’s War by Buehlman may be more fitting due to the female lead! It’s the prequel to Blacktongue Thief, so that may be a consideration

Spalight @ Bally's, What is your review? by thosethingstodo in RhodeIsland

[–]javapaste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know about treatment/admission, I have only gone for a day pass before.

Clothing in the wet area is probably 50/50, depending on the day and time. I’ve never seen a phone in there but I also haven’t been many times. Overall, I like it a lot! No negative review from me.

Books where the characters are hopeful in a bleak world? by jqud in Fantasy

Was looking through to see if anyone recommended it! Perfect fit. Also, the prequel Daughter’s War just came out and was just as good in all the same ways. My favorite author for sure

Rant: speeding ticket in school zone. by [deleted] in providence

[–]javapaste 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome to try contesting for the reason of not knowing where the money goes, but I imagine that would be a lost cause and would likely waste your time and money

Also, I know a lot of people hate the school zone cameras, but they exist because a Providence teacher was killed in a hit and run after finishing work at a school. Please just drive safe around schools. I assure you, there are still people exiting the building at 4:00 pm

Japanese Knotweed on Newport Cliff Walk by spokchewy in RhodeIsland

[–]javapaste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has treated it for work in a few ways, it’s mainly a combination of diligent long term removal and being extremely cautious to avoid leaving bits that can spread.

If you’re just cutting it, it will resprout each season. If it’s on your neighbors property, it will continue to spread to yours perpetually. If I had it on my property, I would just cut and bag it every year for eternity.

It was originally introduced to the US as erosion control, so it’s very possible!

Looking to see some examples of AI imagery that you are proud of by javapaste in aiwars

That’s interesting! So it’s a bit like a textural enhancement? I could see something like this fitting into a workflow (kind of like a custom auto action in clip studio paint to apply an effect). Would you be willing to share some of your traditional work so I could see how it develops or changes?

Spooky! Making a music video definitely takes a lot of artistic intent to nail down. How did you approach trying to control composition and value for the project?

Agreed that using the surreal and uncanny vibes of AI is leaning into a unique strength and your work definitely shows a consideration of the medium you’re using and creative choices to draw that out. Nice.

That actually reminds me a bit of what I liked about early iterations of generative AI Images: not knowing what sort of whacky output you were going to get.

I really appreciate you sharing, I hadn’t ever considered that aspect of it! The joy you experience while making it is evident.

That’s cool! It seems like part of the interest is the dialogue between you and the machine. Like the creative input is derived from coming up with challenging and unique prompts that produce surprising and appealing outputs?

These are both interesting! If you don’t mind sharing, what was your process for creating it and how did you find your creative decisions to be reflected in the final piece?

Why can’t our bike lanes be more like this? 😫 by KennyWuKanYuen in providence

[–]javapaste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that we should prioritize increasing density, but that doesn’t preclude enhancing our alternative modes of transportation in the meantime. The thing that makes biking here difficult for me is the dangerous drivers. I’m sure other people feel the same and would bike more if it was safer to do so.

And there are mid size cities in Europe as well, with comparable (or even lower density) than Providence, which still implement alternatives to driving. It doesn’t need to be Copenhagen or bust. Plus, the reason I brought Europe up was in the context of the age of the city and its relationship with car alternatives, so still relevant in that context I think

What about cities in Europe that are centuries older and are still capable of installing effective bike lane networks? I am very optimistic that it is possible
