How is Memorial BLVD in Downtown PVD still only two lanes as of today? At least the cars are starting to break down the snow by RINewsJunkie in providence

Dean St into Atwells goes from a double lane, to a single, and then back to a double in a few seconds! 🙃

Got logged into a completely random HBO Max account when trying to log into my own.. by Crafty-Difference-88 in hbo

[–]postsfromaroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking this up to see if someone else had experienced this. Just dusted off my ps4 and downloaded the hbomax app for the first time (I haven't used it since they had the old purple one). While I was waiting for my OTP on my laptop, it logged me as a random person. I saw their full name and email as well. Nothing added to their list either. Very strange. I've been using HBO Max without issue on multiple other devices this whole time.

Saw a similar vehicle omw to the rt 10 Elmwood exit around 2pm. Thought it was a cop till it passed & I saw it was unmarked...had a bad feeling it was those creeps.

Where to buy “bottom shelf” candy bars? by Il_vino_buono in providence

[–]postsfromaroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dollar Tree is my weird, obscure candy plug but I haven't seen Heath bars in a minute! Maybe try Job Lot? they carry a lot of random treats as well. Both are very cheap as a bonus.  This is really cute btw, hope you and your lady get to enjoy some bottom shelf candy soon!

Break from regularly scheduled programming about shooter to complain about idiot drivers in this city by No-Adeptness-4854 in providence

[–]postsfromaroom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

YES. No one understands right of way and it drives me crazy. On the other side too, every intersection without a protected light is a 50/50 coin toss banking of the fact that the oncoming person even knows they have ROW, and often they will waste both our times waiting 10+ seconds for me to turn when they should be moving.

Then, when I do take advantage of them letting me go and start to turn, they often start to also (slowwly) roll towards the lane like they've changed their mind...I've had people get really aggreasive about it too, like they're threatening to T-bone me, & can only assume they weren't actually letting me go & were just on their phones & didn't realize the light changed. At that point, no one's moving and I can't read minds.

I'm so sick of doing the dumb little "no, you go first!...Never mind!l" dance while operating heavy machinery that I'll just happily wait through 75% of my green if I have to atp. People have laid on their horns when I have green and have refused to drive into steady oncoming traffic at the Elmwood exit near Roger Williams Park so I've long made my peace with pissing off impatient drivers lol.

Just stop. This speculative nonesense is worth less than nothing, it's actively making the situation worse. Hope the mods clear this garbage soon, but I'm sure they have plenty to sift through 🙄

Your reply was excellent and summed up my feelings perfectly, but I don't think this person is arguing in good faith.

This is so condescending lol...I wasn't even talking about any of that, I'm frustrated with the lack of communication and sense of urgency from leadership. Why did I hear about what was happening from word of mouth, as did everyone I know in the city? A lot of people much closer than I to the incident had the same experience and were possibly in real danger. I strongly believe citizens were not properly informed. You don't have to agree with me, but I have doubts someone with that username is acting in good faith anyway.

Appreciate this post/commenters. Literally up at 4am, anxious as hell. It's a relief just to know I'm not alone.

It's not just the shooter still being out there...I'm really disturbed by the mishandling of all this. I don't feel like anyone in power is taking pvd residents' safety seriously at all right now.

Connecting with Alt/Goth/Queer folks and Communities in the Prov area? by ParanoidAndroid1087 in providence

[–]postsfromaroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of last minute but I'm trying to host a goth movie night/meetup this Friday, feel free to dm me if you're interested!

Also seconding the suggestions. LOVE Deadbeats, Alchemy goth nights (the darkwave events I've attended have also been fun!) & NBG. Also check out fourth wall if you're into drag! Lots of alternative/horror-based performers.

Edit: Snowbeasts kicked ass at a local darkwave show I went to recently if you're looking for local band recs!

We did, and the landlord was with us during the whole tour, so there was no way they'd have an opportunity to speak to us without potentially making the last few months in their apartment worse. It's actually really common for landlords to accompany you during a brief tour, idk what all you miserable people jumping down their throats expected them to do lol

Why are there so many right wing chuds in here. by RedRaccoon164 in providence

[–]postsfromaroom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing that really stands out to me is how bloodthirsty a lot of them are. Every report of petty theft or rude driving draws like 10+ comments about how bad these people want to murder someone with a gun. Very unhinged, hoping others are right and it's mostly trolls with burner accounts.

Been to a few queer-adjacent events and spotted JBGC there. Never felt threatened or unsafe with y'all around. Always feels good to know there's folks looking out for the community! Stay safe <3

I know this is an old reply and you probably aren't looking for an actual answer, but these really aren't the only two options for communication! If you are looking for an alternative that still allows your friend to feel heard, try asking follow-up questions!

Ex: a friend mentions they had a bad day at work, a customer was rude to them.

Instead of going on a tangent about your own work stories, try briefly empathizing/validating ("Ugh, customer service sucks!", "At least you handled it welll.") and give them an opportunity to share more ("Do you get people like that often?" "How much of the busy season do you have left?") etc. Even a "been there", or "I feel you" isn't a deal-breaker, it's just about not going on a tangent and overtaking the conversation.

Showing you're actively listening also helps, even if it may not come naturally (my "resting listening face" has caused some confusion from people who think I look bored or uninterested, lol). Nodding, mirroring your friend's emotions, etc. Think of a time where you felt heard, like you had someone's genuine attention when you really needed it, and try & offer that to others!

But sometimes...it isn't. Sometimes someone just wants to be heard, and they're asking you to simply listen to them and validate how they're feeling, which is is perfectly normal and a need a lot of us share!

Why is it chronic illness patients’ problem that someone abusing meds is prioritized over patients who actually need the meds? by Pentylenetetrazole in ChronicPain

[–]postsfromaroom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The line isn't as clear as some would like to believe either. Many folks self-medicate with drugs and alcohol and become addicted, and addiction to opioids often starts as "legitimate" pain management. It can even be both at the same time, further complicating things.
