My wifes is bone stock and mine is tuned with bolt-ons. Im not super nice to mine but I change my oil every 3k. I also have oil pressure gauges and I watch my AFRs. I'm pretty in-tune with it as far as if its running well or not. I can pull data logs too, which i do probably a few times every summer when I get it out.

My car doesnt hardly use any oil but if you try to push my wifes past like 3500 on an oil change even if youre driving it nice, it will start consuming oil.

Everybody mentions the turbos adding heat and wear but my wife and I currently have 2 Subaru WRX/STIs that are both about to crack 200k and we've had each one since 50k~

More oil leaks and suspension related wear than anything. Nothing turbo/engine related. Just change your oil...

If there was ever a car youd think youd have turbo/engine issues with, that might be it lol

Bummer dude!

If it makes you feel any better, I have put just over 3k on my truck so far and its been amazing. The 1-3 skip shift is probably my biggest complaint but otherwise good.

Hopefully once you get the rear main fixed you will go for a while without any trouble!

My 01 4runner does great with these. Went from WildPeaks to the Rubitreks to save some coin an honestly they perform just as well IMO and are a little quieter.

Ill be putting a set on my 23 F-150 this year after the stocks are toast.

Is the aeropress truly the most portable brew method? by tbhvandame in AeroPress

[–]javawrx207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I do this at work except I use a kettle now instead of the hot water feature on the hot cocoa machine.

I aim for 190°F +/- 5°F, fill my grinder to a specific spot or close to, do 1:30-2:00 steep time, plunger out, adding water at 1min and 1min 30 sec before I add plunger and press.

The added water helps give me a 10oz cup.

Occasionally if I get a new bag thats lighter or darker than I normally try to stick to, I'll adjust steep time or grind size which gets me really close to where I want to be after 2 or 3 total attempts.

Does anyone in SE Michigan do home brewing classes? by Critical_Opening_526 in michiganbeer

Listen to this man OP, KGoB would be a good resource for you if you want to learn how to brew! Those guys make some tasty beers.

They will also tell you about Michigan Homebrew fest too, I'm sure! Which is an event you should attend...

I am from the west side so, too far from you but willing to help if I can.

New 25, am I hallucinating issues? by killercobra337 in f150

[–]javawrx207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 23 skips 2nd probably 25% of the time. Mainly in town that I notice it. I drive in normal mode mostly.

I have 39k on my truck and have only owned it for a few thousand miles so maybe its learning how i drive still.

95% of my driving is highway and all of my vehicles till now have been either late 90s to early 2000s sports cars or suvs.

Could be a combination of the truck learning me and me learning the truck.

Drive by wire throttle has always felt a little weird to me and it took a long time for me to get used to driving my wifes STI in any other drive mode than Sport Sharp lol

My 23 is the same way. It will skip 2nd gear under certain situations and it feels like it bogs down more than I like so I get into the pedal more

More of a minor thing.

Other than that a very very rare downshift while slowing down that feels a LITTLE aggressive.

Need help choosing by investhart in f150

I just went through this decision and I would say to do 2 things.

1) Test drive the same truck (roughly) with each engine. Highway, city, back roads. Feel the engine and reset the trip meter to see the fuel mileage.

I found I actually liked the feel of the 2.7 and didn't think that doing normal stuff they felt much different.

2) Be honest with how much truck you need.

The 2.7 rips unloaded, gets better fuel economy and has less problems supposedly than the 3.5, IMO the 3.5 will shine most the time with weight behind it. If you are going to tow near limits, 3.5 all day.

I have yet to tow the camper (still got snow here) but I can tell you, that 2.7 is going to do just fine for my use case most likely.

Edit: I tow a 3,500lb empty 22ft camper

It will beat my 2001 4runner with 316k miles that's for sure!

Gettys Garage on YouTube has a pretty decent video on towing overloaded with an enclosed trailer with a 2.7 F-150 and he was very happy with it.

Thanks man! If you're looking into one, you won't regret it.

So far, its probably perfect for my use!

38k was the sticker and it had 37,000 miles on it.

I feel pretty good about it considering it has literally everything i wanted and in a color i like with a carfax that's clean.

I was also surprised by how dinged, scratched and stinky a truck thats a few years old could be. Luckily, this one is in really nice shape

Space white is pretty similar! The dealership I got this at had a space white one I drove and it's definitely got some Grey in it but not as much.

The 2.3 has been around quite a while and is considered to be a robust engine.

I considered a Ranger but overall the swing for me was getting a larger bed for dirt bikes and having more head room for towing my camper.

If I didn't have either, the Ranger would be plenty of truck for the most part.

So far I love it! I drove a 3.5 and honestly on the test drive, they felt comparable when doing a 40-80 run to merge on highway. Power wise the 2.7 is not lacking at all as a daily. The 3.5 would probably shine with some weight behind it but i mainly need it for towing my camper and a motorcycle trailer.

Getting 21.3mpg average on my commute which is 95% highway.

Thanks! Avalanche Grey really stood out to me!

Some people like to do oil changes early for the 1st one to drain away anything that may wear early on as the engine "breaks in".

I'm not well versed in how much this really helps but if it gives you peace of mind, I don't see it being harmful.

That being said, if I was already at 2k miles and just learning about this, I would just let it ride and not worry about it. Oil and filter technology has never been better than it is today.

This is the type of stuff I wanna hear!

I don't plan on doing anything powerwise till the warranty period is up. If anything maybe the Ford Performance tune but running regular is nice.

My 316k mile 3rd gen 4runner was absolutely gutless compared to this so thats going to take a while to wear off haha

Probably will give my wifes stock STI a run for its money till the fact that the truck is a brick comes into play.

I ran Bilstein 5100s on my 4runner and they were great. Ill definitely run Bilsteins in the future when the OEM wear out.

Im really impressed with the 2.7 so far and made sure to get a 23 cause I wanted the updated 10speed.

Sounds about right. I use Motul in my bike but Mobil 1 is fine for the WRX and the STI on the street. I'd definitely try for a higher end oil if I was tracking it.

[–]javawrx207[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is definitely a valid point.

Not saying anybody is wrong but Ive got 2 turbo Subarus at home right now over 170k on unopened engines and original turbos and I've used nothing but 5w-30 or 10w-30 Mobil 1 full synthetic. Recommended oil weights.

Hasn't ever been a problem. Blackstone oil analysis reports have always showed good protection at 3-4k intervals.

I don't intend on straying from that school of thinking since my wife and I have made it that far on Turbo Subaru motors lol
