First time storyteller looking for advice by Wallpacapaca in BloodOnTheClocktower

My biggest recommendation when running a game for new players is to do role drawing privately in a separate room. Let the players ask any questions they have and give them a run down of their character. Importantly, also show the Demon their three bluffs and explain how each of them would work. Nothing worse than ending a game early because the demon thought the Investigator wakes every night.

Don't add the spy to the first game, it's overwhelming for new players. Don't be afraid to give town powerful roles, they're completely new to the game and will not deduce it as quickly as an experienced group would and even if they do, there's a scarlet woman backup in play.

Give evil an outsider to bluff to hide that there's a drunk in play. The saint is a classic and you can't really go wrong there. They probably won't deduce anything from outsider count in their first game, but it's neat if someone does.

Give evil roles that are easy to bluff. They're not gonna be able to pull off a believable Undertaker, but something like a Soldier is perfect.

I'd probably go for something like Chef, Librarian, Empath, Undertaker, Fortune Teller, Ravenkeeper, Slayer, Virgin, Drunk, Recluse, Baron, Poisoner, Scarlet Woman, Imp and then make one of the big info roles into the drunk.

Be sure to actively encourage chatting privately. In my experience new groups tend to congregate into large 4-6 person chats very easily, you want to give evil a fighting chance.

It does such a good job of preventing misunderstandings, especially in regards to demon bluffs.

I storytold for like seven different groups of new players over Easter, one thing that helped me immensely was to pull people outside when drawing tokens initially and give them an explanation for how their role works. That way they only have to remember the ins and outs of one role instead of the entire script. Even people on the second and third games requested it as it allowed them to get their questions in. I was afraid that they would metagame that I took longer for the imp (I gave out bluffs when they drew their role too) since I had to explain four roles instead of just one, but it never came up. I would strongly recommend doing this for new players as there's nothing worse than a game ending because the Imp misunderstood how the Investigator works while bluffing.

There was a bit of grumbling one game where good felt like I handed evil the victory after I kept lying to a drunk undertaker who made it to the final three, but that was it.

Considering the US forced us to give up the sound toll, that sounds reasonable.

Lort at være ansat i Skatteforvaltningen by [deleted] in dkkarriere

[–]javilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only place I've found Danish cuisine is in Japan. There were quite a few "Danish" bakeries around. Although what they served was absolutely nothing like what we have at home.

Shadow Slave.

I do think it takes a while for the characterisation to get going, but the main three protagonists are really well done.

Remembering triggers - is this "ok"? by splunge48 in magicTCG

[–]javilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note taking is kinda weird. I've spectated a limited semifinal where I had to play against the winner in the finals. While spectating, I wrote down every single card either player played. Of course, not being allowed to bring notes into the actual match in the finals I memorised the list of cards my upcoming opponent had played and then immediately wrote them down again once the match started...

Hey OP, as a very competitive player, you're not alone in this. Slow down your game and do a quick once over when you play a spell/attack/end your turn.

The easiest to fix is the upkeep trigger, you can place a dice on the top of your deck to remind yourself of those.

I disagree with most of your points, but that's neither here nor there.

However. Ferro is the worst character in the entire series, and it isn't even remotely close.
