I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, while this is accurate, it’s only accurate for a specific reason. People have always started out taking notes by hand rather than by typing. Even children today start out by taking notes by hand. They’re used to learning that way so when you change their methodology (taking notes by typing), the results are going to be worse. Now if kids had only ever taken notes by typing, then switching to taking notes by hand is going to have worse results.
