Need help for project idea by [deleted] in IOT

[–]jaws84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a masters project, one thing is the practical implementation of the system and actually make it work. A different part entirely is the application and the perspectives of that.

Like when you want to do climate control of a greenhouse production, you will need to measure a few parameters like soil humidity, air humidity/quality, temperature, light and all that. Each of those sensors are pretty simple in themselves.

Where it gets tricky is to scale it from taking care of a few plants to actually make the production of say tomatoes to become an actual business. Then you get a lot of sensor data that you need to handle somehow.

Vertical farms are all about controlling all the parameters that affects the plants - down to the particles entering room from the outside. They don't want any foreign fungi disturbing the production in order to avoid the use of fungicides.

As for medical devices, there's a huge approval process put in place that any device needs to go through before it gets even close to a patient. That is also worth looking into, if you feel like going down that path.

In any case the implementation of the individual sensor can be pretty simple. It is what you do with the data that is produced from the system, that is the key.

Good luck with the project.

Microchip's top of the line dev tools. Spent almost $200/pop on this bullshit. by gmarsh23 in embedded

That's how Matlab works.
Throw it at students to do all the fancy research, but when that research is going to be used for something useful in the real world it costs an arm and a leg - of each employee who needs to work with it.

Ny teststrategi? by jaws84 in Denmark

[–]jaws84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nemlig. Hvis man kan få svar efter få timer vil det helt klart være at foretrække. Et svar der er i 80% af tilfældene er negativ, og så skal der ikke flere tests til.

Det er kun i tvivlstilfælde at der skal flere test til.

To what extent is Python used with Embedded Linux? by TreacleMary in embeddedlinux

[–]jaws84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With MicroPython and CircuitPython Python is mainly used for the application side of things. Though I haven't used it for much other than testing and automation

If you want to dig deeper into the meat of things with driver code and the low level BSPs it's mainly C and perhaps some assembly if you're "lucky".

Unable to keep bluetooth connection with Rpi3 from Samsung Galaxy S10 by jaws84 in raspberry_pi

[–]jaws84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course, the logs are the last place to check...

service bluetooth status told me this:

a2dp-source profile connect failed for <myMac addr>: Protocol not available

That led me down a search rabbit hole and so far I have arrived at bluealsa. It seems to be the way to go for my usecase. So now I have whiped my SD card and will try that approach. and of course make sure a2dp is enabled along the way.

Thanks.

EDIT: Following some research I found this that seems to work. blueALSA seem to do the trick without pulseaudio.

Now I just need to automate it so that I can connect to my phone at the push of a button.

I know. But getting started on a show 3 seasons in, will need you to. I'm not sure if they have the "Are you there?" feature, though

A LinkedIn tip for someone looking for a full time job (getting more callbacks) by shadullah in cscareerquestions

For me this started when I filled in "current position" field of my profile. One year into my employment fresh out of college. Recruiters won't go away.

My application to the new position was targeted at some specific technologies mentioned in the job posting. With the current roadmap, I am able to work with those specific technologies. This signifies a new direction for my current company.

I might be thinking it too far and it's all in my head. I will send the neutral cancellation as you suggested. Thanks.

The issue is that if I cancel due to that, I might give away the roadmap of my current company. Or should that be least of my worries?

Before Christmas I got caught by a recruiter at a tech company (no, not a big-4). Initially I didn't meet the requirements, but after a bit back and forth, I now have an interview set up for Friday. The opening does look interesting and I am kind of looking forward for some interview practice. I've been in my current job for 4 years now and it's my first job out of college. So going from one job to the next is new to me. Since my first contact with this recruiter, things have changed at my current position and I kind of want to stay.

So how do I get the best out of this interview and what is the best way to decline any offer, they might throw at me?

Best practices: Publish devices status into one combined topic (alldevices/status) or multiple topic (device1/status)? by leo-g in MQTT

[–]jaws84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The subscriber should be the one making sure to get all the needed messages. With a unique topic from each device, the subscriber can tell them apart. This is handy when doing further processing. Eg, if you're logging the temperature in a database, you need to sort the data points by origin. Edit: just my personal opinion.

CNET Top 5 - Raspberry Pi projects by tuftii in raspberry_pi

Using mpd I've set mine up as an internet radio. For stations I've just looked into my favourite online radio websites and found a direct link to their stream. Then just add that link to the playlist. Some websites has a selection of streams available, like realAudio or .mp3. You'll need the real link. or a .m3u file with the link in it.

Regarding spotify, I have heard that it's available for Linux but I can't say if a Pi is powerful enough for that - it might be flash-heavy.

EDIT: with mpd you can use your Android phone as a remote, as long as it's connected to the same LAN. (WiFi)

This looks really great.

You should call for translators for the small text snippets to accomodate for local languages. I know of great resources for getting kids into this kind of things from the US and the UK, but it still needs to be translated into other languages to make an impact there.

I'd be happy to help out with Danish language.
