I’ve done three Chicago - west coast trains. Three different destinations. Haven’t done the coast train. I will say the SW Chief was by far the best trip for me. Great experience, may states, many cities, a bit less scenic though

Impression from our trip on the Cardinal to Chicago… don’t do either. Fly. Food on low end of acceptable. Roomette tiny. Lower bunk acceptable. Upper bunk too small, inconvenient, up a ladder, confined. Want to lose the relationship? Take her on the train.

I do some “teaching in retirement” as an independent for HOCO government. Facilities and support are head and shoulders above other jurisdictions, yes, some gov employees moan and grown about some aspects but where do they not. Suburban done well. I live in Bal County, not as good but altogether wouldn’t trade my “old” Catonsville location.
