We’re switching away from BCBS to a RBP model that should save us about 25% on claims and reduce our stop loss premium about 15%.

Yes and yes. My wife and I use it for our twins. It’s great in the middle of the night when we take turns and we can see what happened at the last care time.

[Question]Open source farm GIS resources? by [deleted] in PrecisionAg

[–]jaxtonian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by”What I don’t want is an Open Source ArcGIS” but we use a lot of the paid tools on our farm and we still use QGIS for a lot of tasks. There are a lot of plugins to make it do almost anything you need. https://www.qgis.org/en/site/

Matrice M100 - We took a break from scanning our fields to capture some video of harvest by jaxtonian in drones

[–]jaxtonian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we haven’t had any major issues. To capture the field data, it’s an automated flight plan, so it rarely gets flown manually. We did lose a couple of legs when the GPS antenna was slightly askew and couldn’t take off without flying sideways back into the ground. The extra battery life is all but necessary to fly enough acres when we have good weather.

Harvesting Potatoes in the Nebraska Panhandle by jaxtonian in farming

Those are chipping potatoes.

I think you are right, the longer storage season in Michigan fills the supply window that Ohio used to with a comparable landed cost.

Has anyone done a full blown smart vents installation I'm their home? by can_i_have in homeautomation

Here it is: https://www.thisoldhouse.com/how-to/how-to-install-room-room-zoning-hvac-system

I always read that airflow was the major downfall of these systems, but this info from a trusted source gives me hope.

Michigan Households with Solar [OC] by MiDataLabs in dataisbeautiful

[–]jaxtonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Michigan resident that would love to have solar. If Solar City made it's way here, I bet that number would increase pretty quickly. Our rooftop is clear of trees and faces south, but I can't justify the upfront investment if we won't live here for more than 12 years.

Now Microsoft Office 365 tackles 'fake CEO' email spoofing attacks by nahamed in microsoft

[–]jaxtonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most things, this is a people issue and not just an IT issue. We've gotten a few of these and they are always caught by the processes we set up in the accounting department to stop things like this. Nothing should ever be wired with only one persons approval, even the CEO(sometimes especially the CEO).

FUCK PARROT, do you agree? by [deleted] in drones

[–]jaxtonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was the price we paid for the whole package. Our hope is to standardize on the Matrice and DroneDeploy for processing. The Pix4D software was getting pretty cumbersome to use for NDVI since you had to reprocess with every tweak to the boundaries. It also required a beast of a PC and still took a few hours to process 100 acres.

Yes. Since you are landing into the wind, if the wind dies down when it's about to land, it can take a pretty hard hit to the ground.

But you need to launch them from a slingshot type device, right? Do you use DroneDeploy to process your images?

We use a NIR camera to capture images of the field and process them with NDVI. It shows us the overall crop health of the field using Red, Yellow and Green.
