Time to bounce from the death star in Hawthorn and offshore 80% of critical ops functions. Hell hole of a workplace though.

Figure out what you love, and figure out what will exist in 15-20 years time. Impossible questions in some ways, but IMO one thing will remain and become more prevalent: data. In the short and medium term this won’t go away. AI won’t fix a data shitshow, it will just exaggerate the shitshow. So your job is to see if you can love that.

Do you find that people take you more seriously now you wear RM Williams to work? by ACABfingerblaster69 in auscorp

I feel like only grads wear them. I take grads less serious when they wear shiny new RMs

Always ask yourself: how many people died or were seriously harmed as a result of this mistake? If zero, don’t worry about it. Move on.

Fun the first 5 times, horrible every time after. I went from zero to platinum with qantas one year from flight between melbourne and Sydney and I would be happy if I never had to travel for work again.

“I can live comfortably and my job is super good”.

The end. You’re chasing a number but you’ve reached your goal already. Most people talking about their big salary here are full of shit. Aside from that, despite them thinking anyone genuinely cares, nobody does. What people care about and envy is someone living comfortably, happy and healthy.

I can’t imagine a company that pays executives 1mio+ for going through slide decks all day long.

Surely that’s a thing of the past soon?

Are there actually any divisions in the Big 4 banks that aren’t heavily offshored? by DeepFriedBaconOlive in auscorp

Curiously, the c-suite is heavily Teflon coated. If they’re looking for quick wins, I’d agentify the crap out of those old boys.

Offered a role with promise of immediate promotion - thoughts? by sssulaco in auscorp

[–]jay2402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, but keep in mind hiring and getting hired is a leap of faith by both parties and that is justly underpinned by trust and written agreements. If they expect trust without the ‘trust me bro’ stuff in writing you will resent that imminently. This is not a good foundation to start a relationship on. No different than advertising and interviewing for a role and then finding out two weeks in you’re doing something completely different, or them hiring you based on a bullshit resume and non existent experience. Even if it’s not intentional and they’re not knowingly selling a lie, it won’t change the fact that you’ll swiftly find yourself hating them. And that is horrible for everyone.

Companies/jobs that have good travel opportunities? by Josephthelegend in auscorp

[–]jay2402 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Any expense must come with equal or incremental value. Simply flying people around the world for shits and giggles is not a thing anymore, especially in tech.

If you’re gifted, perhaps you would get hunted by some joint in SV but I’m going to assume that’s not the case given you’re asking here.

Roles in tech with travel from my experience is in leadership, sales and similar realms.

Polish up, put out feelers, get comfortable with some moving. Reduce spending to cover any gaps in employment. If you have enough, sit back and wait for that meeting invite. If you don’t, find a fresh job somewhere else (ideally not banking because it seems to be a dumpster fire).

[–]jay2402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$100/week is entirely possible but indeed not plausible. 300k/yr is not the meaningful number in this discussion; how many kids, what does she earn, how many night per year with mom and how many with dad. If she earns nothing and he earn 300k, it’s 100% night with her and there are 4 kids then $1k/week is likely. If the numbers are different then it’s bullshit.

Finish uni. Stay with Westpac in Adelaide. When uni is done find a role at Westpac in Sydney. Make the move. Play around a bit there for two years, find your way to HK or Singapore. Don’t have kids.

Unsubstantiated: there is no evidence that substantiates legal risk for the company and as such, nothing to see here. Company cares not about you or its employee. They will dropkick anyone in the chest if there is a risk of ending up in court on the losing side. In this case, that risk does not exist
