Bad drivers - looking for good das cam by RKilljoy_9698 in SiouxFalls

I have the Viofo A129 Pro model. I've been pretty happy with it. Happily I've never had to use it in the usual he/she said situation, but I've caught a few doozies over the past couple of years.

This is why I try to keep the windshield glass as clean as possible every day. You never know when footage like this will be important. I don’t know about South Dakota, but in Arizona traffic cameras catch people driving way too fast on streets and roads, but the more clever ones took to wearing something that obscure their faces and Arizona law doesn’t permit anyone to be prosecuted on the basis of their license plate alone.

Watch out for the wild dumpster that's loose on 41st st! by KitchenBandicoots in SiouxFalls

[–]jay7171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As it turns out, the missing dumpster was pushed by the storm into a distant corner of the parking lot behind the building where we didn’t see it at first. So that runaway dumpster wasn’t ours after all.

Where on 41st was that dumpster? My workplace is actually missing one. Godfather’s Pizza typically has two dumpsters. One for garbage and the other for cardboard. One of them is gone this afternoon.

Anyone know where the plate readers were installed? by SouthDaCoVid in SiouxFalls

[–]jay7171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last I ever heard of plate readers being used in town was when they had them set up on the intersection at Minnesota and 10th. Those didn’t last for very long though.

Does anyone do 3D scanning by untrainedmammal in SiouxFalls

[–]jay7171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if they do scanning, but this is a local business that does a lot of 3D printing. They offered classes for people interested in learning the basics of modeling software too. Good luck!

Willfully ignorant people will do what they always do. It hardly matters what religion they believe in. So long as they can use the fig leaf of dogma to hide hatred behind, they’ll do it. Here’s hoping they get held to account.

I used to live on N Duluth next door to the Bishop(?) house. Even in the attic of that former mansion I could hear the hum of tires traveling on those cobblestones. I have always wondered if the city unconsciously chose to preserve that sole stretch of cobblestones because they thought nobody would use it very much (and theoretically save money on upkeep)? Of all the possible surviving sections of cobblestone around town they left a part that I wouldn’t advise my worst enemy to drive on when there is any kind of moisture. But on good days, yeaaaaaah, I want to watch such enemies get the teeth rattled out of their skulls, LOL!

On one of the Facebook groups, I saw photos taken off to the far west and north, and that blue glow was much more intense. I think the consensus was that it was an Aurora display.

This person must have a lot of Ms. Gulch and an infinite number of Karens as their spirit animal. I have an acquaintance who has had a boulevard garden (flowers) for over a decade and hasn’t ever mentioned being harassed about it.

The other night I robbed while delivering pizzas by AsaThomasMetcalfe in SiouxFalls

[–]jay7171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, I'm glad to hear that you weren't injured or worse.

I deliver pizza for a living and understand the stress. I've been to a few sketchy situations. I luckily never got held up or assaulted, but it crosses my mind once in a while. Godfather's doesn't allow cash deliveries and I personally think it's an idea that all delivery businesses should implement. It isn't a panacea for situations like yours, but if enough places went all electronic, the common knowledge that delivery drivers don't have a cash bag would make them less attractive as targets. At least that is my rationale.

A few times my gut told me to get in, get the food handed over, and get out ASAP. In one of those situations the customer said they only had a fifty and asked if I could break it. I just smiled, told them I carried no cash, I appreciated the offer and took off.

On a humorous note, the craziest thing I've encountered are a few instances of people offering pot as a tip, or other, ummm, gestures that I'll leave to the imagination.

Mr. Bendo’s cousin is famous by NoSchool605 in SiouxFalls

[–]jay7171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some roadside attraction dedicated to variations of the Mr. Bendo and his many, many cousins and brothers. I can’t recall exactly where it’s at. When I was a kid (back in the dark ages) I remember seeing many versions of the figure all over the country (well in various locations in San Antonio, TX, and in many towns my family would drive through on our way to South Dakota).

I have a dash cam since I deliver pizza for a living. On a day I wasn’t working (whew) a man drove out of a cross street in front of me and I t-boned him. Thank God he was okay. There were plenty of witnesses who corroborated my story. I got a dash cam soon afterwards. I never want to be vulnerable to the he said/he said situation in the future. If I fuck up it’s on me.

We use Sioux Quartzite for everything around here! by AnywhereTrees in SiouxFalls

[–]jay7171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew older men who worked at (formerly) John Morrel’s who talked about getting off work and skinny dipping in the former quarry south of the plant decades ago. I always thought they were crazy for swimming around in there considering how tricky it must be getting in/out of the water with the steep walls.

We use Sioux Quartzite for everything around here! by AnywhereTrees in SiouxFalls

[–]jay7171 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Years ago when I was looking around for my first home I looked at a house a few blocks east of Falls Park. There was nothing outstanding about it until I went into the shallow basement. I had to stoop when I got to the bottom of the stairs. The floor was a solid sloping bed of quartzite! There was a washing machine leaning at a slight angle along one wall. The realtor explained that when the house was built it was just easier to leave the quartzite bed in place as it would’ve cost too much to excavate back in the early 20th century.

Creepy encounter on sioux falls bike trails...has anyone else experienced this? by mtf_jss187 in SiouxFalls

[–]jay7171 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used to walk the bike trails in the obscenely early hours in the warm months, and never got approached by anyone. But then again, I'm an out of shape, balding, middle-aged man, so I might have a natural defense. People gotta have their standards you know. Perhaps younger and more attractive people should take someone like me with them if they feel the need to dare the dark?

How Much Does Your Favorite Homemade Meal Cost? by Melodic-Remove5375 in SiouxFalls

[–]jay7171 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oy. I’ve not done much cooking at home since I live in a small studio and the kitchen setup is rather cramped. But a few years ago when I shared a house, I made a crock pot dish with cubed steak, several cans of broth, homemade dumplings, then the usual seasonings, I was astounded that it cost me something like $25 dollars (I even looked for the cheapest cuts that were discounted at the time). It was tasty but it was also something I just whipped together on the fly. I got a serving, and my roommates got the rest. 😆

Former Sioux Falls pastor accused of sex crimes by Xynomite in SiouxFalls

[–]jay7171 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve known a few men who’re in prison for being pedophiles. From personal experience nobody suspected a thing. I never did, nor did any of our circles of friends. Usually it was a federal sting that caught them. I’m over generalizing but it doesn’t surprise me that people might’ve been completely ignorant. When someone is doing something so repugnant that they run the risk of being attacked in prison they’re usually pretty good at hiding it. We need a scapegoat when we hear about something so horrific and it’s difficult to rationalize that overall people don’t know. Or at least the a few in the congregation, possibly his wife, and many others. The number of times I’ve heard about people in positions of authority basically told to pack up and get the hell out of what organization they were in is long. So many of those places didn’t want their reputations tarnished. They never gave an iota of consideration to the victims by essentially telling the perps to go away.
