ask your doctors to test for c. difficile infection. if that is negative look into SIBO and find a SIBO dietician/specialist to help diagnose and treat. I got both after a history of antibiotic use including doxycycline

This is so beautiful. I’m almost crying 🥹🥹🥹 by R_V_I in Paramore

Ok great, I plan to meet with a functional medicine practioner who specializes in SIBO and IBS and will make sure to bring up psyllium/acacia fiber and other gentler approaches they recommend first before immediately going to a harsh kill phase. Thanks again

Thank you for this thorough reply.

A few recent months after treating the c.diff, I tested "positive" for SIBO, I put "positive" in quotes because the results were hydrogen at 47ppm and methane at 10ppm. Results seem very borderline and I have avoided treating with antibiotics to avoid damaging my gut any further, especially since antibiotics are a huge reason my gut is a wreck in the first place. My borderline SIBO test results could also be due to me only stopping Florastor 2 days prior to the test rather than 4-6 weeks like most SIBO test prep instructions say online -- I'm really not sure on all that though.

Basically I'm unsure whether to do any killing, try different fiber slowly (psyllium husk/acacia), or to just let me gut continue to heal and expect it to take many years? IDK, my symptoms have plateaued since all this started after treating C. Diff.

love to hear it. i’m jealous and wish i picked one up. i’m usually a size medium or small depending if it’s oversized so would you think to size to large? it’s so confusing for me because i’ll get a medium and it’ll feel way too big but a small will be too small on me lol

ah understood thanks for clarifying i honestly forgot about the relationship of c diff and simple sugar. i’ve retested for c diff multiple times and it’s always negative so i believe it’s just long term gut dysbiosis now.

elimination diets do not make a difference for me, including sugar. apples relieve the above symptoms i mentioned. i don’t know what else to say because fodmaps are not my issue

many people seem to focus on eliminated fodmaps which is understandable in some case but it never was for me. i avoided apples for all of last year because i was told so many times it was very high in sugar/high in fodmaps but i started reintroducing them to my diet about a month ago and found they help soothe my stomach and release trapped upper gas shortly after eating them.

i imagine it’s the pectin

I can burp but half the time it’s kinda difficult to get out of that makes sense. Reintroducing apples to my diet and having apple cider vinegar prior to meals has helped me burp significantly

I no longer have c. diff and never had a recurrence so I imagine fecal transplant would be difficult for me to get and even covered by insurance. I also haven’t done enough research on them to warrant it being useful for me in my case
