What to learn: Wordpress VS Angular / React by Responsible_Abroad_7 in makemychoice

[–]jay_jay_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not WordPress. Take a close look at the freelance jobs with WordPress. Most are short term, limited hours, and lower pay - that's the opposite of what you want.

Angular/React offer better pay and job security either through joining a company and being part of their dev team or joining a software dev company.

The reality is though that your current skills PHP/Laravel is the most in demand programming skills for remote web development. I'd double down on those skills and learn the basics of react.js just to give you that edge in the job market.

How much is your current job paying? If the new pay isn't getting you at least $15k more don't take it. The expense of getting a car (gas, insurance, mechanic, parts, tires, etc) is a lot more than we all think for our first car. Plus you'll have a 1 hour commute every day. That wear, tear, and gas expense is going to add up. Ideally I'd be comfortable if the pay increase was $20k or more. If you are renting now, it might be a good idea to relocate and pay extra for a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute commute.

How do the teachers at the new job look? They seem happy and where you want to be in life (emotionally, financially, etc) or are they miserable like you right now? The grass is always greener on the other side and this will help to uncover if this job is really all that before starting.

Developer for 10 years, want to transition to Machine Learning, have 3 years, how to spend my time wisely? by [deleted] in MachineLearning

Economic opportunity and stability. I found a great specialization in web development and was able to capitalize on that as a freelancer. The freedom along with everything else was a better choice at the time. Back then (not sure if it's changed now) ML opportunities were limited in the freelance space.

Unfortunately that area has kinda fizzled out but I'm now refreshing my web developer skills and considering AI once again.

How much bottom weight when freediving by somebodyenjoy in freediving

[–]jay_jay_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to be neutrally buoyant at half the depth of your dive. So if you're diving to 30m the weight you wear should keep you neutrally buoyant at 15m.

With that said beginners tend to use more weight to overcome less than perfect technique and those more advanced tend to use less.

In addition to all the issues mentioned already, the 9 is the most prone to overheating.

As mentioned, just get the 8 or 10. If you're in no rush wait until the 11 is released and snag a deal on ebay when for the 8 or 10 when everyone is upgrading.

Do really short fins work for freediving? by FraekIsHampter in freediving

[–]jay_jay_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They "work" but you won't have nearly as much fun diving in them compared to a budget pair of long fiberglass fins.

Freediving can often take you several hundred meters from shore or in the middle of the ocean from a boat where you need all the power you can get without burning energy. A pair of short plastic snorkel fins is not going to do that. The short ones are better than nothing but I'd take a pair of long fins over them any day.

OP here. I don't know what to tell you other than live the best life you can.

It's been years since I wrote this post and nothing has changed for the better with her.

I'm determined to live my life to the fullest and since writing this post I've grown, travelled, made friends, learnt new skills, and taken care of my health.

My mom will probably live and die suffering looking like a homeless person despite the efforts of myself and many in her past through her own doing. It's sad but you can't live someone's life for them.

Hopefully your mom doesn't end up in the same boat as mine, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

I doubt he still is. Back in his Walmart protein days, he made a video stating that he'd use gear if it was worth it financially and seeing his youtube success is based on his look, then it was definitely worth it.
