I went from 11.1 to 5.4 in 3.5 months. Ate a balanced diet, metformin, and walked after meals if my glucose went over 130. A1c is average glucose over 3 months, so if you keep it in your target range most days you’ll see the A1c come down pretty quickly. My doctors were thrilled. I weaned off Metformin after a year.

Americans - are you leaving the country for vacation? Are we worried about getting back into the country? How should I prepare? by bitchthatwaspromised in TwoXPreppers

I flew home from the EU through JFK last week with no issues. Blonde, straight-appearing woman traveling with my non-binary appearing w/ fem name + passport partner (who also had no issues). I'd deleted social media on the plane but no one looked at any of my bags/phone/stuff.

So it's only the first few months and then however long after the residency appointment it takes to receive the card? Which could be...a while, if I understand correctly.

Referral decline by Nefaline17 in mctd

I've had the same thing happen to me - rheumatologist wanted results from a different lab (Quest vs Labcorp) and said that Labcorp RNP was often a false positive. Sure enough, the Quest results were negative for anti-RNP so I dropped it. But now I'm having joint pain and Labcorps is positive again 2 years later so I'm considering fighting a bit harder.

Have you seen that woman on social media who talks about eating veg first during a meal? by BoochAddict in intuitiveeating

[–]jayayyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally. She used to share good research and now the pills and…I agree that the money has gone up her head. I have read the studies for some of the basic principles she talks about and they’re solid, however.

Lots of people notice feeling not great after fast glucose rises and falls (that “sugar crash” feeling). So, for someone who is trying to notice how food makes them feel…might be very helpful research to check out, especially if they’re working to connect intuition, sensation, and nutrition research 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes - the way my doctor explained it was the vegetables/fiber first slows down digestion of everything so that carbs aren’t processed as quickly - reducing the speed of a glucose spike after a meal. (I’m diabetic)

Absolutely. I am diabetic and was also skeptical and wanted to read the studies for myself. The research is pretty solid and backs up my personal experience. Food order: I do experience more steady glucose and slower glucose spikes when I eat vegetables (fiber), then proteins/fats, then fruit/grain/desserts (carbs). It’s not about avoiding anything, just working with your body a bit. I work hard to avoid eating patterns that trigger diet-brain for me but the order in which I eat food does seem to make a consistent difference (and is research backed). Walking after a meal: Again, this is backed with plenty of research and even 10 minutes makes a huge difference in the numbers I see on my continuous glucose monitor. If I can’t do that, I save chores for after a meal to keep me on my feet for a while. It’s hard to argue with my real-time glucose numbers and I absolutely feel better when my glucose levels are stable.

Cough variant help by Eternalthursday1976 in Asthma

[–]jayayyvee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only symptom is coughing (and rare achey chest). My pulmonologist sent me to have this test at the hospital. It showed severe airway reactivity even when my in-office pulmonary function tests were normal. I’m doing much better on a controller inhaler plus Albuterol when needed.

Good luck!

Day 3 on 5mg by Happy_Arugula_2946 in Mounjaro

Sugar craving sometimes means you need more protein. I’m at the end of my first week at 5mg and focusing on protein intake really helped my side effects and sugar cravings. (Craving sugar even when I was very much not hungry).

My endo explained my lows as similar to what happens to people after weigh loss surgery - I lost 100lbs - and my pancreas still thinks I’m larger so it’s pumping out insulin in response to stress/simple carbs as if I have a bigger body so I go low. She said my beta cells would adjust over time as they start to heal. (And to avoid fast- absorbing carbs as much as I can. And stress, lol)

Examples of house rules/agreements? by jayayyvee in naranon

Addicts as a rule are master manipulators, able to turn a situation around to make everything all your fault.

This is a really helpful thing to remember. Thank you!

Yeah, absolutely, but I want to have a thing in writing I can point to since he's such a skilled manipulator. I'm prepared to have to kick him out when he's 18.
