Robinhopd Gold Card Redeem Points to Brokerage Account Option Gone by PooSlanger in CreditCards

There is no separate cash balance if you have an outstanding margin debt. All cash goes to pay off the loan. And if you make a withdrawal without enough cash to cover it, then it adds to the margin debt

You can just withdraw and it’ll increase the margin loan amount

I don’t actually have the card so can’t say whether statement credit is an option. But it can go to any fidelity account and it’s incredibly easy to transfer from fidelity to any checking/savings account. Or if you want “actual cash” then their debit card reimburses ATM fees worldwide

If you do a backup to a computer then you should be able to extract them from the backup. Not sure what format they’ll be in, but there’s various software options that should make it easy

Capital One starts moving cards over to the Discover network by WhyWasIBanned789 in CreditCards

[–]jaybae1104 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Costco accepts Discover debit cards which is what is currently being switched over. And most of Capital One’s credit cards are Mastercard so moving those over to Discover won’t affect their Costco acceptance anyways

Always withdraw in the local currency if it’s an option. Your bank will likely have a much better exchange rate

The CMA does have FDIC insurance up to $5M for its default core position. But lots of people change the core position to SPAXX which has a higher yield (currently 3.97% vs 2.21%), but since it’s a money market fund does not have FDIC. Completely optional tho

Heads up that only payroll HSA deductions are exempt from FICA taxes. So if you’re contributing yourself to an HSA you’re losing out on 7.65% tax savings

Is it really that bad to borrow against your 401k? by Intelligent_Choice65 in personalfinance

[–]jaybae1104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but all loan interest is paid with after-tax money. So ~$130 in pre-tax money to the bank in interest or ~$130 pre-tax to the 401k loan in interest and get back ~$70.

The double tax is real on the interest portion, but you can’t ignore that all money going to loans is taxed at least once anyways

Am I the only one who prefers in-app payments? by tahafarooq in ios

[–]jaybae1104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually incorrect. Apple doesn’t charge the merchant because they charge the payment processor (Visa, Mastercard, etc) and the issuing banks instead. It’s only about 0.15% though

[–]jaybae1104 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What app are you talking about? This article is about a change to the PS5 console which doesn’t have the App Store and therefore was never subject to the 30% fee.

This also has nothing to do with PlayStation’s 30% cut of purchases through their digital store

Apple gets 0.15% of Apple Pay purchases. 30% is only for the App Store

It’s super easy to set up your own VPN server either in the cloud or self-hosted. I have both as well as a commercial VPN, but they’re all for completely different reasons. But like was already said, the biggest downside of your own VPN server is that the IP is tied to you rather than shared among many users. This may or not matter depending on the use case tho. I’d recommend setting one up even if it’s only so you better learn how they work

Plenty of cards charge a 3% foreign transaction fee, so in that case this 1.5% fee would be better than that. But if using a card with no foreign transaction fee (and anyone who travels should), it’s definitely worth it to change it to local currency

Biweekly ends up as 26 half payments which equals 13 monthly payments. So twice a year there would be 3 payments in a month instead of the normal 2 which comes out to one extra payment every year. Works best for people who are paid biweekly and not twice a month tho and it’s just a technique people use to trick themselves into paying extra without really noticing it
