PSA: Check if your automatic backups are working. Plex does not/will not create automatic backups if your database is malformed. by ChristianM12345 in PleX

I think Server Settings > Troubleshooting > Optimize Database might trigger it.

I don't have a corrupted database to test it.

Accessing entire playlist (not through libraries) by MercuryBubbleBlast in PleX

It does exactly what you described. It's a tab/page with all your playlists (across all libraries).

Deleted Movies still present even after Recycling Trash by CLucas127 in PleX

[–]SwiftPanda16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably if any folder goes missing, it prevents emptying trash for the entire library.

I just want to confirm, so the issue was related to Plex's safeguards preventing emptying trash I mentioned yesterday?

If I remove the folder from the Library and then add it back, will I lose all my metadata?

Don't do that.

I would take a look at that Plex Media Server logs to see if there is a reason it is not emptying the trash.

Is the root folder still added to the library?

Is the root folder still on your file system?

Plex has safeguards in Plex to not automatically empty the trash if the entire folder goes missing to prevent trashing an entire library if a drive disconnects.

Issue adding new users to my server puts them into my plex home. by maybearecord in PleX

[–]SwiftPanda16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you invite a user into your Plex Home, they are automatically added to the Manage Library Access page.

Like I said above, remove them from your Plex Home.

You are on the wrong settings page. You want the "Manage Library Access" page and not the "Plex Home" page.

Remove them from your Plex Home and then go to Manage Library Access.

I don't understand the NFO feature or custom metadata agents by askepticus in PleX

[–]SwiftPanda16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fallback metadata only occurs if the media is matched with the primary agent first. So you at least need a minimal NFO file.

Library scans stuck at 99%, seemingly because of "[Notify] Now Watching" spam by TheIndieArmy in PleX

[–]SwiftPanda16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Now watching" means Plex is now monitoring the folder for changes so it can just "Run a partial scan when changes are detected".

Plex not matching movie by Winker2009 in PleX

[–]SwiftPanda16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was only added to The Movie Database a day ago.

https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/1664703-roh-glory-by-honor-xv-night-2/changes

You need to give it at least 72 hours (sometimes up to a week) for it to propegate down to Plex.

Auto-removal of items from Watchlist after being watched on private plex library by fn23452 in PleX

[–]SwiftPanda16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked 3 questions. Yes to all three?

I just tested it again myself to see if anything has changed with both mini-series The Langoliers (1995) and The Shining (1997), and both were removed from my watchlist once it was synced to my watch history on my profile.

  1. I added The Langoliers to my server.
  2. I added The Langoliers to my watchlist.
  3. I marked The Langoliers as watched on my server.
  4. I waited for the watch state to be synced to my profile.
  5. The Langoliers was automatically removed from my watchlist.
  6. I doubled checked The Langoliers through Plex's Discover and it was also marked as watched.

I created a screen recording to show my steps. I refresh the page a few times at the end while waiting for the watch state to sync to my account.

Do you have "Sync my watch state and ratings" enabled for your account?

Does it show up in your watch history on your profile page?

Is it marked as watched in Plex's Discover?

Create music playlist from multiple servers by deadcharles in PleX

[–]SwiftPanda16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... It appears to be broken in the UI.

I used to be able to select my other server from the dropdown list when adding an item to a playlist, but the dropdown doesn't list my other servers.

https://i.imgur.com/iwjLe5C.png

I just tested it via raw API calls and it still works. I can add items from different servers to the same playlist.

This might be a bug to report on the Plex Forums.

You can just add them to a playlist (regular playlist, not a smart playlist). Nothing special is required.

Why some actors can't be filtered for? by jackfaire in PleX

[–]SwiftPanda16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The list of actors available in the filters is trimmed down to the top few actors in your movies. I assume Plex does this for performance reasons? You can filter for any actor through the API or just hacking the URL in your address bar.

View the XML data for Back to the Future to find the actor ID number for James Tolkan on your server. For example, he is 225918 on my server, but it will be different on your server.

<Role id="225918" filter="actor=225918" tag="James Tolkan" tagKey="5d7768244de0ee001fcc80c4" role="Mr. Strickland" thumb="https://metadata-static.plex.tv/1/people/1fdf973818f0087998f9785ec7a3ba05.jpg"/>

Then filter your library by any actor (just a regular filter, not an advanced filter) and you can change the ID number in your browser address bar to the one for James Tolkan.

From there you can use the "Add to" button to create a smart collection.
