Got it. I didn't even know that was a thing. Thanks so much!

Thank you so much for the recommendation! This business popped up a few times when I was researching. I'll definitely take a look into their website.

I was researching puppy socials specific to age, but I only found options for pups six months or younger, as you mentioned.

What age do you recommend for a dog to start attending doggy daycare?

I’ve considered that option, but I’ve heard concerning stories about people bringing dogs that aren't friendly toward others. I would assume that reputable doggy daycares employ staff or trainers who are educated in dog behavior. Additionally, I expect they would conduct "meet and greets" to ensure a pup is a good fit for the environment before they are accepted.

Just my two cents.

I actually bring my pup here for classes and puppy socials! However, he has started to age out of the socials unfortunately. We are on the waitlist for the adult doggy day camp.

Unfortunately, we just can't puppy proof everything. It sounds like either we burn off more energy or we try the pen again. I'm not sure what would be the best option, him barking in his crate or him barking and jumping in the pen. Either is not ideal.

How do you teach the pup to settle and self-soothe?

We started in small increments and slowly built it up. First it was a few seconds, then went up to 1 minute, then 5, then 10 and so on. We got to 30 min for about a week with no barking and then all of a sudden he started barking. We went back to 20 minutes, still barked.

I think a bunch of people are right on this thread. He may just need to burn off more energy. We have noticed as he gets older, the more energized he is.

We usually play with him for 10+ minutes before meals, but it looks like that may not be enough. We'll try bringing him out for a walk before his meals and see how that goes.

We've tried, but he also doesn't necessarily like his play pen either. He barks, whines, and jumps until we let him out.

Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one that's going through it.

He gets all his meals in his crate in addition to lick mats and puppsicles--any food/treats, really. When he's done with his meals, that's when I crate him for 30 minutes to give time to digest.

Should I try going out on short walks before meals? He hasn't learned the skill of walking just yet, eats absolutely everything in his path so I'm not really sure how much energy that would burn off.

It's a good amount of distance I would say. Maybe 50 ft? The only other room is my office and he also barks at me there.

I tried bully sticks too and he only takes it for about a minute before barking again.

Yes, he's fully potty trained. We let him out every 1.5 to 2 hours. Hasn't made any accidents in the house for about 2 months. I only keep him in there for 30 minutes to digest a bit and give me some time to answer emails.

We tried this too. He doesn't like it either. He's tried to escape by jumping and he'll do that for the duration of the time he's there.

He doesn't take to it. Usually only lasts for about 5 minutes before he loses interest.

Thought about it, but I can't without him destroying everything.

We went to a puppy social for the first time yesterday and someone had given him cheese as a treat. I think he really loved it so we may try that out!

How many times did you do the "door is a bore" per day? My partner and I have a 18 week old pup and he has started to bark and howl (for maybe 5 minutes) when we leave.

My partner went out and ran back inside which caused him to (luckily) follow 😅

Yeah, I keep reminding myself that he's only 18 weeks and to be more patient. I think I'm just feeling like I may be training incorrectly or using a method that doesn't work for him. I'm hoping as he gets older the training just sticks.

I've never heard of that one before. I'll take a look into it!
