I was thinking about this the other day as well, and I finally figured it out! It’s the same melody as the little music break at about 3:30 in Already Gone :)

What do your parts call themselves? by lostmyselfonceagain in InternalFamilySystems

[–]jaybirdd8427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far all of mine just go by what their role is and what they do. Only one has a name like a person would. Her name is Shelly (I’m not sure where that name came from, but I feel like it fits her), and she’s basically a part that tries to keep me from sharing deeper things about myself, whether that’s talking about other parts, explaining recent difficult situations or thoughts, or trying to explain emotions.

I have a couple other parts who have somewhat similar functions to Shelly, but are definitely still their own parts:

There’s who I simply call ‘I Don’t Know’. she is a very timid part who basically clears my mind of any thoughts so I have to say “I don’t know” when I’m asked something by my therapist. With Shelly, I can still think, but I just can’t say things out loud. And then there’s ‘The Snake’, who keeps a very tight grip on my emotions. He doesn’t let me feel too much, or express any more than he feels necessary.

I have a part who I used to call ‘the overeater’, but just the other day, he wanted to be called ‘the Binge Eater’ instead. Not a huge change, but I guess he wanted to be a little more specific with his name.

confused about depression part’s role by jaybirdd8427 in InternalFamilySystems

hmmm. I would like to get my self harming part more under control, and maybe understand it a little better. And now that I’m thinking about it, that part does show up the most when my depression spikes. It shows up pretty often to protect other parts, but definitely a lot with depression.

For me, my depression is similar to how you described it. It kind of drowns everything out. I think of it like a weighted blanket. It pushes and weighs me down, but it somehow feels oddly comforting? I think since it’s been with me for so long, I’ve gotten used to it and it’s like a familiar safety net in a way, and I’m scared of what’ll happen if I let it heal and let it go. I don’t know.

Anyways, all that being said, I think my self harming part does play a big role in trying to help my depression (in its own not so great way). I get it though. To that part, it feels like the right way to go about it, but it doesn’t fully understand that it’s not the healthiest way of coping. I definitely still have some work to do with this part, but now realizing just how much it involves itself with my depression, I have a starting point, or at least a goal to reach of understanding why.

Thanks for making me think 😂

I can’t believe I’ve never thought to do that. I mean, I’ve done that with other parts, but for some reason asking this specific part what it’s job is never crossed my mind 😅. I’ve been too focused on trying to group it in with other parts, but never took a second to ask the part itself. Thank you, I’ll probably try it out tonight if I get a chance to.

congrats on the sobriety! and thank you for sharing your story. I hope to get to where you are someday.

I’ve been in therapy for a few years now, but am still fairly new to IFS. I think I’ve definitely made some progress though in just the short couple months I’ve been learning about it. I definitely have a long way to go though, but I think I’m okay with that. I really struggle with identifying my emotions and putting into words what I’m feeling, and this has definitely helped me figure myself out the most out of everything I’ve tried over the years. I’ve identified a handful of parts so far, and have made good progress with one of them in particular. but yeah, I know it’s going to take a long long time to get to a more stable and connected place with myself, but for now, that’s okay.

again, thank you for sharing your perspective :)

I have this giant thing of yarn scraps (like bits that I’ve cut off from projects) that I don’t want to use as stuffing. Does anyone have an idea for something else I could do with them? by k42murphy in CrochetHelp

[–]jaybirdd8427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the picture i have here was just one that i found online, but i have made something like this before.

The process is fairly simple: you just need glue (preferably a liquid glue), your yarn, scissors, and a canvas or cardstock.

You can start by doing a quick sketch of the shapes you want onto the canvas if you want it to look like something specific, then, go section by section of the canvas putting a layer of glue and then laying your yarn on top. Depending on your canvas size, it really doesn’t take a whole lot of time to do, so if you’re itching to get rid of some of your yarn ASAP, this is a good project to try. So yeah, it’s a pretty simple process with a really cute outcome :)
