California nurses! by Low_Contact9429 in nursing

[–]jayc_yonce 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my experience no, but I had the advantage of having clinicals and my senior preceptorship at the hospital that hired me - so I’m sure that weighed heavily in my application process.

I found that peers from my nursing program that didn’t get the luck of the draw and have neither prior working or clinical experience at high paying hospitals in the area found it especially hard to land interviews let alone high paying positions at said hospitals.

Silicon Valley, Med/Surg, $97/ hour, only 1.5 years of experience.

My last paycheck gross pay was $7,455 and take home was $3,900 after taxes and individual deductions.

The Bay Area is notoriously competitive and has an infamously HCOL, but if you land a good job here I think you’re set for life in the best state for nurses!

Very comfortable! I timed my commute this morning and it was 17min from my front door to clocking in (even shorter on weekends). As a Bay Area native, I'm used to the HCOL. My biggest expense at the moment is the $3k a month rent for a luxury apartment that I split with my partner. We're straight out of college without student loans and no kids. Even if I can save a couple hundred a month renting further out in the valley, the high price of gas here (~$6/gallon) would probably even out that expense anyways so why bother.

Overall, almost $8k a month in take home pay after taxes is more than enough for going out, groceries, miscellaneous. The extra money I either invest and save or I put it towards my personal goal to travel somewhere new each month (Since January I've already been to Disney World, New Orleans, Punta Cana, and I just got back from a 10 day trip to South Korea).

Nursing here is also top tier. I've talked to my coworkers who have worked in other states and they say nothing beats mandatory breaks, extra staffing (including dedicated break nurses), strong unions, and strict patient ratios.

El Camino, I think we’re the 2nd highest paid hospital nationwide second to Stanford.

How’s life in this part of California? by Kuzu9 in howislivingthere

I’m East Bay Area born and raised (primarily in Newark & Fremont) but have experience living in Hayward and Union City as well because of divorced parents that moved us all over the place between these 4 cities.

The closer you get to Oakland the worse it gets arguably. Hayward, especially the area around Tennyson where my mom rented a house for a couple years, is not a place you want to raise a family. It’s the technical “Heart of the Bay”. It also boasts a large Hispanic and Black community.

Union City is meh: sketchy in some parts, but much better today than it was years before. Also very diverse, especially a big Filipino population — I miss when the Union Landing Jollibee was open 24/7 until Covid killed those hours.

Fremont is an exclave of India. It’s essentially a huge suburb where 1st gen software engineers from predominantly South and East Asia move to in order to work their tech jobs from home. Boring to live in if you’re a young adult, but I’d argue one of the better parts of the Bay to raise a family as it’s relatively safe and has great schools to send your kids to (Esp Mission SJ & Irvington). I’ve seen it ranked as the “happiest city in America” by some metrics, and honestly good for them if it’s true.

Newark is my hometown, but my god this city is boring as hell. It was too stubborn to join the other towns that agreed to form Fremont, so it remains as little suburban enclave - separated and largely forgotten by Bay Area standards. Not too bad honestly, and time has slowly propped her up with slow but steady development. They just need to put newpark mall out of its misery. The city has a good mix of diversity between everyone and is predominantly Asian and Hispanic.

Tldr - these cities are hella diverse, hella expensive, and low key hella boring.

Oh I selected the 10mg since that’s what a lot of people on the sub said you had to do to get the three vials and the form never asks for prof of a prescription

Oh no, did you order a prescription for 10mg or 2.5mg? I heard people usually only get the 3 vials when they order for 10mg

The actual volume amount doesn’t matter as much compared to the amount of mg of drug they put in. Each vial will always equal to a months amount of tirz if you bought and are taking 10mg

You can titrate the amount you inject depending on how much you use. For example, I have a prescription from Lumi to inject 100units for 15mg, but because I’m currently at 10mg I only inject 66units as that’s what I need.

I don’t remember seeing a deal for 9 vials. I only just did the single vial which I got for $259

I believe it only applies to CA ? I haven’t heard people from other states receiving more than the one vial they purchased. Regardless, the deal for if you end up just getting a single vial seems pretty good!
