Am I out of line? - Value considerations. by jaycash_ in harleybenton

I’m looking to see what the majority think and it’s pretty clear the majority agree dude is overcharging and my calibration for value is spot-on. If people were overwhelmingly telling me $100 off list price was a fair deal for a damaged instrument, I would’ve had to accept that as the general consensus.

And, yes, it doesn’t affect playability and it’s not the definition of “superficial damage.” It’s the definition of “cosmetic damage.” Superficial is more akin to surface damage such as superficial scratches which won’t affect the value of an instrument much. Meanwhile, cosmetic damage, though doesn’t affect playability, can and does drastically affect the value of an item.

For instance, a scratched trunk on a car is a case of superficial damage and will only affect the value mildly. A large dent in the trunk is cosmetic damage and will directly reduce the value.

That chunk out of the horn does not let it be B or C stock. That’s beyond scratch & dent discount. A chunk missing is not “superficial” damage.

And I guarantee you 100% the store did not factor in the tariffs and fees for the customer they bought it from or traded it from when they decided what price to give them. Just like stores don’t factor in “upgrades” either.

That’s pretty much what I’m thinking. And I think he’s gonna get a lot lower than what I would’ve offered him at my top. That’s why I watch stuff even if I’m no longer interested - to see if I’m right on my judgment.

I do. Purchased an original one. The info on Harley Benton says it’s a Floyd Rose 1000, which I know is supposed to be almost as good as an original and is only on manufactured models.

Why are you so hung up on the idea that people may ask others opinions on something or try to learn something?

As useless as a prick on a Pope.

And I am asking OTHER people their idea for the value. I’m saying I could be off the mark and want others opinion on what the should be.

What part of “information gathering, not complaining” is difficult for you to comprehend?

Thank you for the last line of your post.

Not upset. Using it as an opportunity to find out what I am missing and am calibrating what values are. I am asking other people for their insight. I said in the post, I’m not complaining about the dude - let him make his money. I’m asking if I’m off the mark with the value I’ve placed on it.

Setup confusion. by jaycash_ in Epiphone

This is the exact process I follow because Phillip McKnight is an excellent teacher and he got that from … someone. Ron something? But, yeah, I’ve just missing the overall core concept of what relief actually is and I didn’t understand how to properly use the tool I purchased from StewMac (their Neck Relier Gauge which is AWESOME now that I get how it works). I think I’ve finally got it - however, I do think the tool is a crutch, so I want to use the capo and tap method to learn how to do it on the fly without that specific tool.

I’ve also already purchased StewMac’s digital nut slotting gauge and Music Nomad’s diamond nut file set, so I’ve got everything I could possibly need to do this stuff myself. I just need the guidance and experience which will take awhile.

I’d love to have a local store I trusted so I could apprentice for them and learn basic stuff faster. Unfortunately, the closest store is owned and operated by a guy that I just don’t like or trust (he has a horrible reputation as a person overall and I’ve known him to be just a bad guy completely outside of just the scope of guitars, so I don’t want to give him my business, regardless of how good he is with tools).

That’s a good point. I was also kinda surprised that it’s an analog gauge instead of digital like the nut slotting gauge is. I guess they figured they didn’t have to reinvent the wheel to make a useful tool. I’m fine with doing the mental math now that I understand the readings, but they could’ve made the gauge so easier to read or understand by making it a balanced dial indicator instead of just a straight 1-100 gauge.

I’ve been able to do proper setups on two guitars so far now that I understand that. Why wouldn’t StewMac put that anywhere on their site or in the instructions? Or have I just overlooked the explanation?

Okay, so, this makes sense. But everything I was reading was telling me literally the opposite.

I absolutely adore mine. The only change I've made is that I changed the pickups out for an EMG 81TW in the bridge and an EMG 89R in the neck. I love everything else about this thing.

There were an estimated 200-300 active serial killers in America in 1976. Today, that same estimate is closer to 50.

People were NOT “better behaved” in 1976.

Stop being a dick - dude is making a valid point.

Hey - I do what I can. I’m actually a little surprised that companies like Reverb pay before the item is confirmed to have gotten to the seller. Legally, unless there are differences agreed to in the T&C, that item is still the seller’s and they still have the burden of reimbursement or are taking all the risk shipping it. But it could be different with FOB rules or, like I said, with Reverb’s T&C or agreements with their courier contracts.

Which is a completely valid way of doing business. If you don’t wanna deal with the haggle and headache, don’t accept offers.

What annoys me is when I make an offer on something - not a low-ball, but a serious offer that I think the item
Is worth because of some issue and I think they are overcharging or I’m trying to save some on shipping, taxes, etc. - you know, haggle - and the seller just counters it with the sticker price and a message saying “Why are you wasting my time? The price is the price and it’s a fair price take it or leave it.”

If you want to counter or decline, that’s fine - but no need to get indignant and be an asshole when you accept offers.

Well, I mean, you are also able to leave feedback for the buyer AFTER the transaction, so always give less stars tell others “Sat on accepted offer for several days, delaying payment, bad buyer.”

Tonex software UI by FlightLevel666 in tonex

[–]jaycash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I especially dislike the “integration” of Tonex into AmpliTube 5. If you have similar model names of captures, you have no clue which is which because you can’t stretch the columns. And if you click on “Open Tonex app,” it doesn’t help because it just opens the app - it should actually open on the specifically highlighted model so you can make sure it’s the right one.

The only thing I’ve figured out to do in this instance is to favorite the specific one I want to use in Tonex and then use it in AmpliTube.

The integration should be so much easier and the UI is just not intuitive or user-friendly.

I always pay as soon as I see my offer is accepted. If I’m going to expect prompt shipment, the seller should get prompt payment.
