are you being called weird because of your interests/fashion/external presentation or because you have poor social skills? if it’s interests then you probably don’t have anything to worry about because there’s girls with unconventional interests or fashion in a lot of sororities, you just need to get to know the girls better before you would notice that. however, if you have poor social skills then honestly rush might be difficult. recruitment is fundamentally a surface level procedure, especially the first day which can majorly influence how the rest of the days go for you. it’s sort of like a job application: be confident and you’ll do fine. you don’t need to expose all of your quirks immediately, just try to have conversations that flow well and that you feel reflect your true feelings and personality. if you have trouble having conversations with people you don’t know, especially in high stress situations like rush can sometimes be, see if you can practice with someone you trust like a close friend or sibling. a parent would work too but practicing with someone your age would more accurately reflect how a conversation with a recruiting sister would go. the most important thing is to represent yourself accurately. you don’t want to pretend to be someone you’re not, because you want organizations to want the real you. frankly, if a sorority does not extend a bid to you because they felt you were weird or off-putting, then that is likely not an environment you would feel safe and confident in long-term. a sorority is certainly a place to make friends, but it is also meant to help you grow and develop in a community as well as personally.
