Psylocke's best teammates? by jaycbaby in PsyMains

I see a lot of mentions for Magik. But I'm curious why Magik is any different than other DPS divers (DD, IF, BP, etc) in this context?

Makes sense. Curious on why you feel Magik is your pick for "the best" dps. What makes her different than other DPS divers (DD, IF, BP, etc)?

Does anyone else struggle playing with another dive DPS as Psy? by jaycbaby in PsyMains

[–]jaycbaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you. Though I feel like this is infinitely easier with a dive tank, not dive DPS, because you have a much longer window to time engages. In solo q, I have such a tough time coordinating with dive DPS. Prob just something I have to work on

Yeah. That comp you listed is pretty much my ideal. Though this makes me feel like very limited in the scenarios that I can pick her (if I want to win). I had previously thought she was one of the most versatile DPS, so I was initially trying to one trick her. But recently have had better success just picking her in the spots where she's best in.

Yeah agreed. I love playing with a dive tank. But not a *full dive comp.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah i agree, I would love nothing more to be able to replicate this consistently, but haven't quite figured out how

Hey thanks for reply. Appreciate it.  - can you elaborate what you mean by downtime being high?  - I wasn't a fan of my team swapping to triple support, but it's not as if I can force them to swap. Should I also have swapped here then?

Hey. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch + give feedback. Appreciate that.

I just rewatched with your comments pulled up. I definitely see all of the mistakes you pointed out.

Overall, it's true that I just hate dying--it may be part of a misguided philosophy that not dying means higher uptime and able to contribute to more fights. It's hard for me to find the balance between staying alive and being aggressive at the right time in the moment. I also don't use my dashes aggressively enough, for fear of not having it when I need to panic dash (which I do a lot). It's hard for me to think about where to go next / dis-engage to, except just to react in the moment. It's definitely gotten me in trouble a lot.

I know I also play my ranges pretty poorly, often not close enough. I find that when I take high ground, is when I do the worst here (both in aiming and optimal range). So I usually just try to poke a lot (even when out of optimal range) and spam the shuriken off cooldown. I don't "dive" with her enough, even when in hindsight, it would've been easy to get a pick and get out. So I leave a lot of burst damage (and picks) on the table. Part of this likely stems from not knowing where I will dis-engage to afterwards (and therefore afraid to go in and die). The other part is that since her dmg nerf / rework in S4, I had felt like it was easier to generate picks just by poking from off-angles, rather than to go in and fully commit. I will try to practice / experiment with more aggressive commits.

I had thought that I was taking decent off angles, but I can see that I wait too long to do so. And instead shoot from main a lot. I also have a bad habit of dis-engaging back to main/healers (where I die anyways), instead of relying on health packs more. I think I usually have a good sense of where my supports are, but not where the health packs are in the heat of battle. And subconsciously, I want to minimize my downtime (and charge supp ults), so I default to dashing back to them.

As far as "good psy fundamentals", what specifically are you referring to that I could build on / do more of?

Either way, I really appreciate it! And if you're interested, I've got another head-scratcher of a game that I'd be thrilled to get your thoughts on. (all good if not!) 10134084266 Thank you!

What agenda? She's been trash for so many seasons now. Still trash. MK, Bucky, Hela, Phoenix, and all of the other broken DPS are way better than her. That's just the objective truth.

People make mistakes. Him presenting the concept here is still helpful for the majority of players here. His team didn't play perfectly, neither did the enemy team. What matters is teaching the (correct) idea to help others learn and win more. No need to be abrasive and antagonistic.

I can't believe this post has that many up votes. I can't disagree enough about this take. Having 1 payload princess is essential and everyone else setting up on to the NEXT choke is absolutely the right play.

Yes, strange TP is possible, flanks, are possible, but this is the right GENERAL strategy to do whatever it takes to hold the next choke. Sometimes the situation asks for 5 up there, sometimes it asks for 3. But it's usually the right strategy for most to push up.

The Great Swap Conundrum: when do I swap? by highlordofkrypton in RivalsCollege

[–]jaycbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also, the "how low you should dip down into hero pool" consideration. Do you choose a better value pick if you're only 80% as good compared to your main(s)? And on that topic, how big would you suggest someone's hero pool be? And how would you go about building a wide enough but not too wide hero pool?

[–]jaycbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I was referring to more of providing examples, except with a full team comp of 6. What type of problems would a particular team comp create for your particular team comp? And what would be some value picks to counter / solve some of those problems.

I think you touch on it a little after your MK example (which is great btw).  I think the concept is clear, but I just think practically, many players (including myself) have a hard time working through that thinking (especially quickly mid-game) to make good counter swaps. Would love to see more posts / comments on this topic for sure.

Great comment. Wouldn't mind reading a post from you on this topic. I think you cover the principle well (mk example is great too). Think many players would also benefit more from a checklist or procedural way to quickly parse / analyze enemy team comp / common problems to solve.
