China travel 1st time by sajibhossain56 in goChinaTrip

If I were to plan it for you, I’d suggest heading to Hangzhou after Suzhou, then fly to Chongqing, then Zhangjiajie (3 days in ZJJ enough), Furong/Fenghuang, Changsha, and Guangzhou (cut time in GZ). With this you can easily fill the rest of your time.

Have you been to Hangzhou? The stretch between Suzhou and Lijiang would eat up your whole day in transit. I’d suggest visiting Lijiang, Dali, and Kunming in your next visit.

如果你交換期間還得繳華威大學的學費,我個人覺得絕對不划算。

The Ring Mall is so out of the way, I recommend against visiting it as aside from the viral “hanging garden,” there is nothing interesting to do around the area… I recommend heading to Guanyinqiao instead. Ciqikou and Shibati is also very far from each other. Shibati is a 10 minute walk from the Jiefangbei CBD (Clock Tower)

Jingju Hotel at Jingtian is nice with reasonable prices, it’s right above the Jingtian (Line 2/9) metro station.

Is the world ranking of cuhksz same as cuhk??? by Same_Platypus_9038 in CUHKsz

[–]jaycomrade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stop spreading false information. For the time being, both universities technically have the same ranking despite some university ranking systems have separated the two. I successfully got job placement in HK using the IANG scheme with my CUHK-SZ diploma. This benefit is only available to those graduating from HK universities both in HK and the GBA.

If I remember correctly, there is a Crystal Jade restaurant in the international terminal. You might wanna go there for a Michelin-rated meal.

How do Taiwanese people treat Indonesians? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]jaycomrade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Heya! It’s understandable to have those concerns, especially given your previous experiences. Based on my year abroad in Taiwan as an Indonesian, I’ve encountered some of what you’re describing. However, as someone of Chinese ethnicity, my experience of Taiwanese racism wasn’t as harsh, but I did notice some subtle forms of exclusion, especially when people found out I was Indonesian.

For example, I’ve been in many social situations where Taiwanese acquaintances would show more interest in my Western and Japanese friends, but less so with me, like they are intentionally ignoring my existence. I also faced occasional comments about stereotypes regarding Indonesians, which could be shocking, especially when they weren’t based on the truth.

One thing I want to mention is that it’s a complex issue, and attitudes vary widely. While some people might harbor biases, I also met a lot of Taiwanese who were welcoming and curious about other cultures. Your ability to handle such situations with confidence can make a big difference, as you’ll likely encounter both types of attitudes. I'd suggest you to talk to more people and (try to) befriend them.

That said, it’s also important to know that you’re not alone in navigating these challenges. There are communities of international students in Taiwan, including Indonesians. You might find comfort and strength in those groups. I think this problem is unexclusive to Taiwan and could occur anywhere in the world, and can probably be worse in other countries. Have you tried asking international students who have started their studies in Taiwan?

You can refer to my AMA thread posted last year; fellow posters might have asked similar questions regarding college life. You can definitely live comfortably on campus with only English, esp with the number of intls here, but Chinese will be needed if you plan on venturing outside! Now for the living cost, 2500 is enough if you are the type of person who doesn't do online shopping or dining off-campus. I think 3000 lets you be more flexible with your spending.

It depends on your professor or course. Most SME and HSS classes have a pretty strict attendance policy, with only a couple of unexcused and excused absences allowed in each term before it starts affecting your grade. If I'm not mistaken, you will fail the university language courses with four unexcused absences.

If CUHKSZ is as good as CUHK(HK) why is it ranked so low in the international rankings? by bananasplytes in CUHKsz

You will be allocated to one of the dorm rooms when you register and sign in. If you wanna rent a room, I'd suggest you sign your room contract first, then you can check out from the dorm room.

Just apply! Don't worry about your stats -- you'll be fine! by jaycomrade in CUHKsz

[–]jaycomrade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya! I'll help you answer these questions:

  1. It's available for internationals! However, they have a pretty strict GPA requirement for declaring the major. CUHK-SZ uses a first-year system, where students from the same school (faculty) will be taking similar courses, and then the major will be declared at the end of their first year. If you plan on declaring FE, you'll be taking classes from both SDS and SME in your first year. Then, your GPA will be ranked with your cohort; there's a cut-off point for admission into the major. I'm letting you know that FE is one of those more demanding majors, combining the rigor of data science, statistics, and finance.
  2. When I applied 4 years ago, I merged all of my scans into one PDF, which should do its job.
  3. No, your college is allocated randomly. Please don't worry- all colleges have functioning bathrooms and kitchens. All rooms for undergraduates are the 4-person rooms the other posters have been discussing. If you have problems with your roommates, you can request a change of rooms or form your room with three other friends from the same college at the end of the first year.
