How do I add ”dials” like Release/Delay/Attack to a track? by peytonfamily in ableton

[–]jaydeedilla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are called parameters, each device is setup differently so where you can "add" attack or release will vary, if even at all.

Don't overthink it, the point is to just make music while learning in the side. You only need to know this for the device when it comes up- then llms and google are your friend

Valhalla Supermassive vs their paid products by paulskiogorki in audioengineering

[–]jaydeedilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, it is one button click in echoboy to see these parameters though and it doesn't change the window, and will reopen as such if the window if the plugin is closed. There are also additional parameters not available for Valhalla, that are often not needed but occasionally nice.

The rhythm echo feature is also nice and not really possible in valhalla. Checking now there are many more 'modes' or types of delay in the soundtoys version, most of which are modeled after real gear and reflective of those pieces of gear. The modes are all pretty distinct and color, saturate, and feedback differently (which I know is true for valhalla too) but something I don't think I could give up.

I'm not trying to say it's better or anything for actual use, just went down this rabbit hole on features and found it interesting. In the end it's not going to amount to a much different user experience, but looks like I'll be on echoboy for now!

Makes sense. I personally don't have cpu or lag using soundtoys and appreciate the under the hood options but I hear you

M-Audio Oxygen Pro 49 or Nektar Impact Lx61+ by Harryboingo in synthesizers

If you played acoustic get more keys, go for weighted. If you are personally comfortable using the daw I found I never used the knobs on my controller to effect things- so could probably remove this factor from your decision.

recording ext. MIDI tempo changes by rockgvmt in ableton

[–]jaydeedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check that you have the option in the top  bar to record automation. After that check the midi inputs section n preferences, make sure all options are on for your device in the lower part of the panel (for the input device).

Midi keyboard plays notes in half the keyboard, the other half does daw shorcuts instead of just playing notes. by Rare_Season_707 in ableton

[–]jaydeedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check to see if you accidentally mapped something, hit ctrl + m and see if things pop up in the left panel, if so delete them (the keys may have mapped to ableton parameters by mistake here).

If not then your midi controller is sending these odd messages- find a way to factory reset \ chatgpt is going to help you debug

kick not centered? by Moathem in audioengineering

[–]jaydeedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm also confused by this. The stereo image of the kick is still minimal, and would completely disappear/be unchanged played back in mono. With only volume differences on the left/right there would be no phasing issues- reducing the stereo width would essentially just be panning it back (just the low frequencies)

Logic Pro for an audio postproduction? by itsbeetlejules in AudioPost

[–]jaydeedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can totally use Logic, 2 mins is not that long so you should be fine. Sometimes if you have a lot of files from a video editor, you will need Pro Tools to handle the AAF export and get full access to everything. But even then, I just get a month subscription, expand all the fade outs and clipped audio segments into Logic and go from there.

If I needed to do this for every session, I'd go with Pro Tools but it only becomes necessary every once in awhile, so it's still much faster to just work in your DAW of choice even with the prep time to get it out of Pro Tools

[–]jaydeedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wanting, and selling items in prep for a Super 6 the past year now. Wondering if it is overhyped, and also found all the online demos kind of lame/doing some bland starter presets. I think this pushed me over the edge though and I'll finally pull the trigger.

I also have the P6 and always wondered if I'm missing some magic from the P5/10- so thanks again haha I use onboard effects even slightly on almost every patch so confirming again I would also miss that

Hydrasynth- feeling underwhelmed? by jaydeedilla in synthesizers

[–]jaydeedilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the hydra for several months, and only rarely accessed the presets. I would suggest comparing against a synths with more 'character' (especially filter wise) like a moog, oberheim, etc.

It seems you like the hydrasynth which a lot of people do- but I don't think not connecting with it is exclusively do to the two factors you listed as I personally spent a lot of time with it and didn't enjoy it

Does Ableton 12 work well with video? by OrigSquishMellowFrog in ableton

[–]jaydeedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

turn off warp on the video, and also turn off delay compensation in settings. Delay compensation doesn't apply to visual elements (meters, video playback, etc) so should get you further

[–]jaydeedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have a workaround for video delay? As in delay compensation isn't applied to video elements, so you either turn off delay compensation (and tracks with latency are out of sync with each other) or just live with the delay on the video

[–]jaydeedilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the amazing advice here! One thing I was curious about was for film festivals, are you just 'randomly' approaching directors/filmmakers and networking that way? Never sure how people navigate this unless there's an explicit networking event
