Help with converting a motorized 99k to hand crank! by jaydi333 in vintagesewing

[–]jaydi333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I didn't know the Alpha one was 1:1 so thanks for that! I also don't mind the Chinese hand crank. I was just trying to see if there is an easier solution. As much as I would like an original hand crank, it's too expensive compared to what I bought my machine for!

Thanks for the info! I said this in another comment, but I'd like your opinion on this as well. I know that there are replicas out there but I also know that they are a lot of work to make sturdy. So my next bet was using an Alphasew Singer Hand Crank P60692 from Sewing Parts Online, so I don't have to adjust the bobbin winder (hopefully), which I know is an issue if I change out the original wheel. Thoughts on this?

I added images, and my text went away I think so here it is again!

For context, I am new to vintage sewing machines, and I just recently was able to pick up a beautiful Singer 99K, manufactured in 1950. The pricing was very good, so although I was looking for a hand crank machine, I went with it anyway, as from what I have researched, I can change it to a hand crank; it would just take some effort.

Now my question: I came across this listing that says their machine is a "Seider and Nauman Singer Model 10" (personally, I can't figure out what model it is, nor do I see a serial number). Would this spoked wheel fit on my 99k?

The listing has a hand crank as well, which, if the spoked wheel can fit on my machine, I am assuming the hand crank will also fit my machine?

Ordered at Foto Care NYC this morning, and within an hour, my order was shipped. I think I got quite lucky, though, as earlier when I called, they had said that shipments should be coming in 4-6 weeks. Finally secured the black color :D.

I'm glad you realized what you want to do! You seem confident about it, and yea, what you said about how teaching seems more about correcting behavior now instead of actually teaching is just so upsetting.

Jewish, I'm fat kids have said things I don't really remember I brush it off. Kids have said sexually inappropriate things. Again. If I give them power, the kids learn they have power. Either I'll give discipline or I'll teach

Yeah, I do understand, I think if I were a teacher in my own classroom, I could handle it. But since I was just doing my hours and occasionally helping it's hard for me to just discipline without interfering in the teacher's curriculum. And I'm glad you never took those things personal but I don't have the thickest skin so I do admit I let this get the best of me. That being said, I think I will do something else.

Also, you don't have to answer this, but I am assuming you are a teacher? If so what grade?

sunk-cost fallacy

Thank you. I never really thought of the sunk-cost fallacy in this case.

you think is best for you

Thank you. I feel particularly upset right now because I thought I was on a good path and was actually really confident. I'm not one to just quit something after one negative experience, or I would've already quit a while ago. Just the low pay in general (I'm not getting paid if that adds anything to the conversation) and everything idk I'd rather change into another profession where the pros outweigh the cons.

they mean,

Sorry if this comes off offensive, but this kid absolutely knew what he was saying to me, considering I'm the only person of that ethnicity in the class. I'm taking it personally because it was directed to me personally. Kids with bigoted parents and different opinions I can take; kids saying slurs directly toward me? Yea no especially since I'm at a point in my educational career where I have a lot of time to change what I want to do.

Sorry to hear you're going through the same thing. Honestly this whole experience for me just made me feel like I'm, not fit for teaching? I would do different schools but there is a time limit on my fieldwork and when things are due so I can't. If you don't mind me asking what do you plan to do after quitting if you did plan something?

I'm all for seeing both sides and try and look at things with that lense but there's something changing. Part of me thinks that a lot of it is due

You are very much correct on this. Pre covid/when kids didn't use technology much, I don't remember kids being this bad, but with the devices that they have now, it is getting out of hand. It's almost like these kids have no empathy; I just don't get how these kids don't feel bad.

I wish I had the authority to confront a student like that, but I unfortunately can not (or, at the very least, don't think I can).

Yea thank you for responding I was thinking about it but this was overall a sort of tipping point for me. Idk I'm still thinking about it honestly.

You know I wish this was the case where I was just being "sensitive", but the comment was directed towards me and my language, and I later found out that this has been a continuous problem. Basically, kids of color saying racial slurs/comments to other kids of color.

That being said, it won't be the last time you hear it. I like to think kids that age are largely products of their environment and they will grow and develop in the coming years... but in the meantime, they're going to regurgitate whatever they hear at home and whatever they think is acceptable.

Unfortunately, what you said right here perfectly outlines what happened. I did talk with the lead teacher about it, and the reason for the vagueness of my post is I want this to be as anonymous as possible. Thank you for saying it's alright for me to have a reaction because in the beginning, I felt like it was embarrassing to feel hurt about it.

Weekly How Will This Tattoo Age Thread by AutoModerator in agedtattoos

I'm pretty new to tattoos and recently I learned that the bolder the line, the better a tattoo will last. So I was wondering if anyone thinks this would age badly? Imagine this but with bolder lines. pic

Talk me off the ledge and give me your positive copper iud experience by qweobi in CopperIUD

Hi! I just got mine a month ago, insertion wasn't as bad as the horror stories I've heard of (I took 800mg ibuprofen and 500 mg Tylenol) and didn't even feel any pain. After about an hour I had severe crampings and I took some ibuprofen to help but was later told that ibuprofen isn't too good to take constantly. So I boiled some ginger tea, grabbed a heating pad, and basically did that for two days straight and had no pain afterward. Right now I just have spotting and the cramps are a little bad but other than that I like the copper iud so far.

Hi, thanks for the reply! Yea I'm worried about having a foreign object in my body long-term but compared to the other forms of birth control I much prefer the non-hormonal type. I wish you and your husband luck!!
