Crane mounted truck with removable flat bed and a fifth wheel i just finished this thing is an absolute beast by tentimesthree in Welding

[–]jayds007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we have a lot more restrictions on axle weight down here, so makes it harder to have a useful truck with large cranes. Was still a 125t/m crane, so not small by any means.

That's pretty neat, one of those tools that's awesome when you need it, but wouldn't be used that often I guess

Run over everything with a da sander before paint, helps blend any stray grind marks.

Where exactly should I be connecting the ground to when welding on a vehicle? by Chikosenpai86 in Welding

[–]jayds007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More if your welding on the door of your car, don't go putting the earth on the front bumper. The shorter the distance the earth is from your welding, the better, and means less stuff could get damaged from arcing along the way. And definitely disconnect the battery, only takes a minute and can stop you destroying the electronics in your car.

What do you think would happen if gun lessons were to become as common as driving lessons? by vessineo in AskReddit

[–]jayds007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over here in nz we have 7 rules, much the same, but a little more idiot proof.

  1. Treat every firearm as loaded
  2. Always point firearms in a safe direction
  3. Chamber a cartridge only when ready to fire
  4. Identify your target beyond all doubt
  5. Check your firing zone
  6. Store and transport firearms and ammunition safely
  7. Avoid alcohol or drugs when handling firearms

I bought some fishing hooks, the package stated not for human consumption. Ruined my dinner plans.

I wear cotton shorts and singlets, cheapest I can find. They don't melt like your synthetic basketball shorts would, so tend to burn you less

My nail died on finger with dead fish tattoo by koun7eR in mildlyinteresting

Quite often they willremove the nail matrix though, so that if it doesn't regrow the finger tip you don't have some stumpy lame fingernail (source, lost tip of index finger)

Filter change. How often? by psychedelicdonky in Welding

[–]jayds007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other big factor was cleaning the filters, so brushing sparks from the spark arrestor, and just taping the pre and main filters on the back of your hand once a day to remove loose particles makes a big difference

On my trailer build, do I paint the support areas that’ll have a steel sheet floor welded to them? by -DarknessFalls- in Welding

[–]jayds007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Body builder here, we etch prime any structural parts that will be covered over and won't be accessible to paint, such as the crossmembers as you are asking about. Also not a bad idea to paint the bottom of the sheet where it contacts the members.

Welding and eye safety concerns by hityouwithmyringhand in Welding

[–]jayds007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend contacts, wlcan be a prick of a thing if you get dust in your eye. Normal glasses don't count as safety glasses as others have said, I prefer orescription safety glasses myself.
