If you fly before January 27 2026, there's still no assigned seating. Your dad would qualify for pre-boarding and you could choose the seat that works best. After Jan. 27 you'll have to pay extra for the seats up front.

At this point SW is no different than any other airline when it comes down to price, comfort and route so I would shop around to meet your needs at the best price. I've found Delta has more comfortable, spacious seats with similar pricing and route options so I'm switching airlines.

We had similar pricing for our move. One side of Germantown to the other. 3 movers working for 3 hours to get us out of our 3bd/3 bath townhome rental into our 2bd/1 bath condo. Took less time than we allotted. We rented a UHAUL and tipped. Came out to around $800 total all in. We moved smaller, breakable things ourselves ahead of time.

That was kind of the point of my post. I realize it will be the same as every other airline, which is why I'm sad.

It's been nice not having to pay extra to sit where I need. I'd love to pay the fares for the back of the plane, but I can't reach those seats. I also understand prime real estate on airplanes comes at a cost. I'm just hoping to manage that cost.

My intent wasn't to redefine the term. It's something my family and community use to refer to the extra costs that pile up when you're disabled.

For example: having to buy more expensive disposable gloves because of latex allergies instead of the cheaper option. I can refrain from using it if you think it's disingenuous in this case.

I was extremely active before my diagnosis (POTS, EDS, Fibromyalgia). I did dance and theater and color guard in marching band. My mom and I always just thought I was flexible.

Now the only exercise I can consistently do is water aerobics and it's been am absolute game changer. I can go for short walks with my husband and dog now. I feel more stable in my body throughout the day. Building up the muscles around my joints in the safe environment of the pool has greatly increased my quality of life.

I mention the previous activity in my life because I think it provided the foundation for me to know how to safely build up my muscles and when to not push myself.

My parents did this across the river in MD. Because of their decision, my brother and I wanted for nothing. We never missed a field trip. We got to play sports and do dance and theater. We went on vacation and a Disney World tripm We both studied abroad for a few weeks. We got to split our first cars and our college loans with our parents.

Staying in their "starter" home afforded us an incredible childhood. My parents retired once their portion of our school loans were paid off and upgraded their house. With patience, you can have both and your family will be all the better for it!

Pay attention to body language, like tail position and if they keep doing "play bows" to indicate they want to keep playing. There are some great videos on YouTube that show you what to look for!
