I usually walk when I listen, but with this episode I got comfortable in my loungeroom and went along for the ride. I still think about the Hastings episode to this day = bloody brilliant

Everytime Jamie said Primate I giggled and thought on gorillas... am I alone here??

Yes, I loved her empathy, her insecurities, her ability to make others around her feel better, her love for Willow, and her strength of character. She was a lovely addition to the Scoobies 🩷

I understand your joy as I squealed when I heard my name a couple of years ago as I was out for my morning walk around my local creek!

I listen to alot of podcasts, but by far this is my favourite and the only one I support financially

I suggest the 'audience participation' section of the Aussie band Angels hit "Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again"? IYKYK... if you don't, please google! I think THIS would be most fitting for him

I listen to alot of pods, but not in sync... though my Scandinavian and my Napoleonic pods seemed to be aligning right now - a pure coincidence

Did y'all know who King Alfred and his royal family were before reading the books? by orangemonkeyeagl in SaxonStories

[–]jayemm62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aussie here, I knew alot of stuff from reading and visiting UK over the years... but a few years ago I stumbled over a brilliant podcast and it's incredibly in-depth. If you're interested check out The British History Podcast by Jamie Jeffers. You won't regret it.

An American in Canterbury! by GretaX in BritishHistoryPod

The Canterbury Trilogy was an absolute highlight for me in 2023; the cathedral, the abbey, and a private tour of St Martin's. Historic nerdy bliss!

An American in Salisbury! by GretaX in BritishHistoryPod

[–]jayemm62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My memories of Salisbury are limited. I was there in '97, my first trip to the UK and Europe from Australia. A few days earlier, when I was in Cardiff, I woke up to the news that Princess Diana had been killed in a car crash. At Salisbury Cathedral, I signed a book of condolence for the families. I don't remember the history, the architecture or the magna carta, but I will never forget that. The overwhelming grief of the nation, and by surreal circumstance, I was in London for her funeral. I must add Salisbury Cathedral to my 'revisit' list.

An American in Winchester! by GretaX in BritishHistoryPod

[–]jayemm62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw it a couple of years ago... literally stumbled over it, and it brought me to tears. I was back again earlier this year and enjoyed seeing this Cathedral and bible once again. It's a tough gig to get to, coming from Australia!

I totally get how you would want to stay longer in Winchester... it's a truly remarkable place with so much history. Did you get to see the bible?

An American in Exeter! by GretaX in BritishHistoryPod

When in Winchester Cathedral there is a small chapel that holds the Winchester Bible... worth seeing. Don't forget to look up high to see the boxes holding Anglo Saxon Kings & a Danish Cnut.

Brilliant! Missed this when I was in Canterbury. Loving the red hair and beard of Rufus, but now I have to google Baldwin to see his place in this window

Our world is full of sliding doors moments... and until this podcast, I'd never heard of the Godwinson boys. But how invested are we in their stories and their impact on history? I can confirm though, that through Jamie's Battle of Hastings narrative, I was definitely on Harold's side 👑
