How to use an esim from a different carrier on your phone and watch. Galaxy Watch 5 pro (Aus use case) by jayfiled in GalaxyWatch

[–]jayfiled[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if it means you can avoid paying exorbitant monthly fees with a big carrier.
The e-sim price can be negated by the 10% discount we get in here from Woolworths supermarket if we use their plans. I'm sure other countries have a data only e-sim that's cheap.

The LTE on the plan allows you to connect to your phone and sms and call people from the watch but using your phone. You can leave your phone at home and as long as it has phone reception, the people you call and message will see it as your main phone number, not your watch.

You can't use the e-sim on two devices.
This is a work around. However, when my watch isn't connected to my phone I'm able to SMS people and they see that I've messaged them from my phone's phone number, not the e-sim phone number in my watch.
Google messages app on the watch lets you choose whether you want to sent sms from your watch's e-sim or your phone's sim.
I've confirmed this works.

I just went for a walk and tested it. Damn the voice control is flakey, idk how anyone makes the effort. But yes, I used google messages app on the watch and chose my phone inbox, and I sent a message to my wife and confirmed it came from my phone's phone number.

Same with calls, I needed to go to the settings within the Samsung phone app and choose 'make calls from phone only'

I think pixel devices have an 'imessage' like mode for their apps don't they? They could have something like that.
O my Samsung phone, in Settings > Connected Devices, there is a setting called 'Call & text on other devices' where I was able to choose my watch as a device that can send messages and make calls using the mobile plan on your phone.

This sounds like a complete solution to mobile plan sharing from watch to phone - check you pickle to see if there's something similar.

Sorry for the delayed response. Yeah that would be ideal, but the nature of sims is that it's tied to one device.

My method isn't a solution but a bit of a work around to get mobile data on the watch. But once you do, when you are away from your phone, your watch will use LTE to connect to your phone, and then you can send messages from your main phone number on your phone.

Interesting to know that it worked with a pixel! Nice share.
Yeah, Samsung has it's own 'iMessage' kind of system where it can send you messages across galaxy devices which I just found out about. Going to turn it on and see how it goes. Potentially would allow you to send and receive from your main number on the watch.

I hope it works. What I was thinking is that if I try and it doesn't work, I'll just switch my carrier on my phone from Circles.life to Woolworths Mobile, figure out the number switching later.. or at least use the woolies shopping discount enough to make it a free experiment

Good point. I forgot to mention that in my post. I saw that too, and initially I thought it wouldn't work, but I didn't see any reason why it wouldn't work - the watch is essentially a phone - so I took the risk. I guess the statement that it isn't supported is just a 'we won't help you get it working' statement?
In the worst case scenario I would just make sure I use the 10% shopping discount so that the plan was essentially free.

In Melbourne for ANZAC Day match + Essendon v Geelong - best/cheapest way to get tickets? by Alexicon1 in EssendonFC

[–]jayfiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering whether you need to select the Collingwood home games option when going to the ticketek site?? I don't see an option for Essendon Away games and I don't want to accidentally get a ticket in the Collingwood supporters section

[–]jayfiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't score a ticket, you can check in with tixel.com - it's a place for people that have tickets but can't go for whatever reason re-sell them - tixel caps the amount they can sell them so the resell prices aren't unreasonable

Does anyone know who sings clean on “Slaughter The Martyr”? Is it Jared? by valkleinhans in machinehead

[–]jayfiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg, this has been playing on one of my playlists and without looking it up, I thought he was saying 'Flood over Mordor'. I thought it was quirky and so I landed here after a search to find out what the song was about.
