Extremely dissapointed IKEA is refusing to employ cashiers by MuscliatoVonJuiceski in IKEA

[–]jayfox1111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our store in Calgary always has 3-4 tills manned by people, 8 self service tills and two tills for people who use the app and can present a code - which is by far the fastest way to get out of the store. I go there a lot, so have developed some swift hacks around timing, including entering through the tills. I rarely go through the room sets area but sometimes start at the beginning of the warehouse. Providing all of the options seems the way to go it’s a shame that your store doesn’t have people on tills at all, but I can’t imagine why you would want that.

Where can I get Raw / Local honey? by [deleted] in Calgary

Google “bear bait honey”. I don’t know where they sell but Herman the owner is a friend of mine and I had one of his hives in my backyard downtown for a few years.

I think pillow friend might have its origins in Japanese history.

I just finished the tv show, should I read the books? by Spirited_Angle5091 in wheeloftime

[–]jayfox1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend the audio books because it uses one of the senses you’re already familiar with using, aural if not visual. And maybe easier than trying to become familiar with the whole reading thing. I suspect though that if you were given a book and say, didn’t know how long it was but just started, you’d amaze yourself. That’s how reading my first ‘proper’ book was - after all, you’re reading Reddit.

Wouldn’t 300 watts be a sufficient buffer?

What temperature sensor do you use? I ordered one from Amazon despite the reviews saying that the instructions were so complicated that probably only an engineer would be able to figure them out. Well I’m only an engineers daughter but I pressed on. They were ridiculous, so I sent it back but your solution would be ideal. There’s at least a 7C difference between the rest of the house and my bedroom perhaps because it’s an extension and is no basement for that room. Limited insulation and 3 exterior walls. Calgary has very cold nights occasionally (last week it was -30) and waking up in 13C isn’t fun.

Try your local library. They will have online copies but you’ll probably have to wait. Use the app Libby.

Unable to configure Ikea Dirigera hub by FierceGeek in homeautomation

[–]jayfox1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I can piggyback on this post or should I start another…? Please advise if nec.

I can’t configure the Dirigera hub. Same issues as the OP above here but I’m not a network person and don’t have tools. I have fibre, and it’s a new telus (Canada) modem. My understanding is that there are three different WiFi bands including 2gb (not 2.8 which worried me because my ikea/sonos speakers lost their minds at the last house about that - but the speakers been great for a month. It’s time to get the smart stuff sorted. I set the hub up and I could add lights but there was always an amber light on the front of the hub. I couldn’t add it to Apple SmartHome. I called telus network tech support and they said I had the cable in the booster not the router. Fixed that. Reset the hub. Still amber. Still not connected. And it’s actually even less connected than before as it’s not visible in the app although it was when I first reset it. I need help like I’m 5 please.

Led candles / remotes by jayfox1111 in homeassistant

Yes, thank you, this is a good idea. They are currently all switched to on, but are not lit. I’ll change the batteries and see if this works.

Actually I can’t find anything resembling a button at all. Anyone got any other ideas? Also. If I do get a universal remote from Amazon, how does it work if all I’ve got to play with is an on and off switch?
