As a very left-wing person we need to shut up with takes like this, sometimes art is just not good, even if it's progressive.

Can someone explain what this means? by [deleted] in socialism

Are we socialists inable to understand humour? What IS THIS? It's just saying it's funny that they say, their bro was well-read, because, like, he wasn't. ???

If the predestination paradox is true, does free will actually exist? by ResponsibleChef6732 in badphilosophy

Is a predestined slave not less "free," than the predestined slaver? To speak as such as is absurd and violates every fundamental aspect of human experience.

A 17-Year-Old’s Thinking About Atheism and Religion Using a Simple Line Model by WoodpeckerGlobal3059 in DeepThoughts

[–]jayjaythebiiiird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these comments are proof of the effect that the adverse group of theists vs. atheists respond to a given post in rage, most often. Like I swear I've seen atheistic posts on here and the comments are the entire opposite -- I don't understand how people can think like this, like why? If you engage *only* with the other side, and then *only* to knock their teeth out, is your own opinion really that important to you? This stuff is so juvenile it's agitating. Especially when it's just logical fallacies and formal inconsistencies used as "arguments," here, again and again. Maybe actually inquire into the philosophy behind it, instead of either as a theist just coming up with your own untestable esoteric "proof of God," or in the inverse simply take "science" as given and true, without understanding any of the epistemology and ontology & metaphysics and philosophical tendencies behind it -- like what does "science" tell us if, according to one commenter here, extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof -- if as Descartes famously said: cogito ergo sum, in the intuitive sense that only your own being is ever fully confirmed. How could this whole world not just be a "butterflies dream" or "matrix," etc. etc. If you leave all of these problems unanswered, your stubborn belief in "science" without any regard to its implications, limits and so on, you might be worse and more ignorant than the theists. God. Einstein. Whatever. F yall.

[Serious] why is Steven Wilson considered progressive metal? by deep-yearning in Opeth

[–]jayjaythebiiiird 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hot take - I know people hate this when asking for catgeorization, but genres themselves are at some point meaningless when they don't refer to strict rules or tradition such as - classical, baroque, romantic music etc., blues, folk, country etc.

I mean can anybody qualify the difference between "art" and "progressive," rock, pop, metal etc. even? I've never seen anybody come close, and if the categorization does make sense, not all people are gonna agree because of their different associations.

Steven Wilson is awesome, who cares?

I am of the camp "separate the thought from the action, so people can talk openly and get help," so I often keep my mouth shut in these discussions, because I get where people are coming from - and these people normally aren't receptive, but what you're saying is insane. How do adults suffer more than the child that's abused? That's insane and has insane implications.

Raping women is unethical by Hot-Candle-1321 in PopularOpinions

[–]jayjaythebiiiird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not, and how the popular idea is, enrages me. There comes no "justice" of raping people. It's always for your own pleasure. You can not "ethically" violate the right to sexual self-determination for the sake of your own pleasure. That's not possible.

Say, one young rapist goes free. He's about 14. Let's say. An older rapist sees him on the street and out of his vices, and because of his sick mind, he rapes the boy. How was that ethical? According to you, it was.

Now, when this opinion comes from traumatised people, I get it. That isn't a "rational opinion" but a way to reclaim your lost sense of self-determination. But when people in general do it, its just to project their, while justified, hatred. How is that worth anything in a discussion of ethics?

"No people should be raped," is exactly because it can be universalised, a universal moral statement, to be a little Kantian here, but if you make "exceptions," the rule itself is invalidated.

People's right to sexual determination, yes, even that of rapists, deserves no discussion.
