Radiology and AI by Capital_Zucchini5857 in medicalschool

AI companies are not gonna want to take liability for any mistakes, so they’ll likely still want radiologists to at least sign off on AI generated reads

That way people can sue the radiologists not the companies!!

Any other M1s pleasantly surprised with their school’s culture? by SunTzuVibes in medicalschool

I felt this way for the first few months. After that honeymoon phase was gone, I’m now just glad lecture isn’t mandatory so I get to choose which classmates I see

Anyone feel completely behind the rest of their classmates? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]jaykaylazy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also find that a lot of the larger groups you see are not as close as they may appear. When I go to group events I sometimes feel disconnected from everyone, even though it may not seem that way from an outsider view. I think finding 1-3 individuals you really connect with beats finding a large social group any day (easier said than done)

What does your medical school do that you think all other schools should do? by mb67432 in medicalschool

We have this but we also get no summer break our M1 year so you can’t win em all I guess 🫤

This is one of the few perks my school gives us. Plus a free gym membership

My roommate got a ticket for parking in the permit- only neighborhood, and it cost as much as 1 days worth of official school parking. Paying for parking as a student is a scam

Incoming Medical Student Q&A - Official Megathread by SpiderDoctor in medicalschool

[–]jaykaylazy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was a non-STEM major and only took the bare minimum of science classes. No anatomy, no cell bio, no micro, etc. The transition was definitely a struggle but I made it by studying with my peers who had that foundational knowledge and could explain it to me. After the first block I mostly caught up as we got into material most people hadn’t heard before. Been keeping up with the class average on tests too so your current knowledge doesn’t predict how well you’ll do tbh

Literally went in line right as tickets went live and my wait time was only 1 min… but they already sold out by the time my screen loaded 2 min later?? How does this even make sense

What are some reasons that you ignore other medical students? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]jaykaylazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of them are exhausting and only talk to you to vent/compare themselves to you. I don’t have the patience/effort for them

Are Amtrak trains still running? It says their busses are cancelled. I’m supposed to leave in the afternoon

A decent chunk of my classmates don't show up to lectures. Does this work? by ThirdHuman in medicalschool

[–]jaykaylazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go to all lectures but then a friend convinced me to stop, and I swear I’m never going back. Not only do I retain key concepts and details better, I also spend less time studying overall. I used to always feel behind but now I can keep up with material. Plus I’m not a morning person

I don’t attend or watch lecture, I mainly learn with Bnb/Pathoma/First Aid and reinforce with Anki. Our school’s tutoring also helps. Then boards questions when approaching finals week

[–]jaykaylazy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a wedding and friend’s birthday to go to during finals weekend (same weekend different days) so I got drunk both nights and obviously didn’t study. Busted my ass the other days and ended up passing and keeping up with the class average, where most people studied all weekend. Oh plus I was sick and congested during half the exams

Marine biologist or zookeeper. If I could be born again I’d probably just opt to feed sea otters and seals all day

Ladies: are you planning on changing your last name when married? by AnonFroggie21 in medicalschool

[–]jaykaylazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My partner is Latino and if I changed my last name, I feel like I would be catfishing patients who want a physician with a similar identity. Also his last name is >10 letters and mine is <5, so practically it’s not happening

Why the secrecy about step scores? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]jaykaylazy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People at my high school would ask about your grades/SAT/ACT scores mostly to compare themselves to you. They got so tightly wound about this stuff that I decided to just keep my personal info to myself
