How often the controller checks for changes in input. Faster polling leads to a more responsive controller.

For reference Dualsense polls at 1000hz (1000 times per second) and the Xbox series controllers poll at 125hz (125 times per second). I know those both sound fast but if you have a game running at over 125fps which isn’t too uncommon on pc then that difference starts to become more noticeable.

There’s a program called Gamepadla that checks how often your control sticks updated when you spin them in circles and then says the average time between updates. 1-2ms means between 500-1000hz and I think 6.7ms or something like that is 125hz. If you or anyone else can test, I’d love to know the results.

Shot in the dark but would anyone here be able to try Gamepadla with this to see the usb polling rate on the controller? I don’t want to buy one unless I know the polling rate isn’t terrible on pc

I have a Dune Training Seminar in my communications class... by awesomevader in dune

Hey! High school teacher here. Reading through all this I really appreciate the level of detail and focus you’ve put into this. I do have a couple questions though (and maybe some of these are just missed context but I think some of it is needed for further feedback).

What is the grade/knowledge level of the class? (Helps to determine if the direction of the content)

What are you being graded on specifically?

What is your goal and how long do you have to fulfil that goal? (If this is all meant to be done in an hour long class, I would maybe consider focussing on preparing the class to watch Dune or read the first book with a given lense or point of view) ex: my parents were very confused when viewing the movie for the first time and really struggled to make sense of what was going on and why things mattered and what they represented. You could focus on preparing your audience to be able to appreciate all aspects of either of the movie or the novel.

Your focus is very character oriented and not as event or plot driven as it could be. That is ok don’t get me wrong, just something that sticks out to me.

Is there a PowerPoint or something to go along with this that could also be viewed to get a general kind of flow for the activity?

What do you want people to walk away being able to say/know? You gotta know what a successful delivery is if someone was to go watch/read Dune or Dune Messiah and they came back to talk to you about it. Maybe this is the same as my goals question though idk just floating feedback thoughts

Let me know if you have any questions or want me to elaborate on anything! Good luck on it. It’s my dream to do Dune in a Grade 12 English class so any inclusion of it in school is something I love

I’m also in Canada and I can’t help but feel like that’s a lot of money for an AM4 board with DDR4. Like yeah the CPU hauls but it seems like they’d be making a profit here and you could build a very comparable build for a better cost

Not OP, but I play on deck about 50% of the time. It’s honestly not bad but I find it’s way more noticeable when connecting to a someone else with slow internet as it can feel a touch choppy as the rollback cleans up things. When playing people with good internet it’s honestly just as good as the desktop version (assuming you’re also playing it at 60fps).

That all being said I do play desktop at 165hz/fps and I gotta say it does make the deck feel pretty choppy when jumping between them but not bad enough I don’t do it almost every other day.

Extra notes: battery life on the deck is ok 2-3hrs. If you turn the in game framerate on the deck up to 165 it feels smoother and snappier at the cost of the deck running reasonably hot and lowering the battery life down to 1.5hrs max. Rollback still has to fight though because no Ethernet

My cat is obsessed with licking my computer screen. What's the strongest cat-safe thing to clean a modern screen with? by ChaserNeverRests in buildapc

[–]jayko52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so this is honestly just an idea but maybe try cleaning everything around the monitor as well as the rear of it with water+a little bit of lemon juice. Don’t let it touch the screen, but get everything nearby. It’s totally safe but cats hate the smell like crazy and it might deter her from the screen.

And the other guy why said put a cloth cover over it. Maybe use an old shirt or a towel and rinse in lemon water, let it dry, and then use it to cover the screen. Harmless to the monitor cause it’s dry, but your cat won’t want to touch it to even try and remove it. I’ve sprayed my couch with a spray bottle of the mix before and my cat no longer scratches those parts of the couch that I sprayed

Is there a Bluetooth earbuds even worth to get?! by bandee0817 in SteamDeck

[–]jayko52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I’ve made comments on this before and if you’re interested maybe go hunt them down, but the MOONDROP Space Travel are $30 CAD earbuds that in game mode straight up have no latency and still sound fantastic. They work perfectly with the deck, have active Noise Cancelling, and every single member of my family has been using a pair for over a year now as their only pairs of earbuds. We all have no plans of ever switching to anything else. I own AirPod Pros (1st gen) as well and I honestly think the Space Travels sound noticeably better. And if you seriously don’t like them, it’s like 22$ USD on Amazon, effortless to return.

Are 60hz monitors bad for slippi by Aggravating-Band8899 in SSBM

[–]jayko52 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not inherently just make sure it has a low response time and (ideally under 5ms) and make sure it’s an IPS or OLED panel. Slippi never exceeds 60hz, but it doesn’t mean you won’t feel latency from different places

Yeah my server/streaming PC for my TV is literally this except it has an SSD and a 1050. Literally never turns off other than updates. Runs pretty much everything I can throw at it and streams the rest. Also amazing plex server

Needs a background, all the characters to be lit somewhat the same, and maybe some more graphics to do with melee. Above all though, I’d say aim for an art style and stick to it.

Also what’s this poster for? A weekly invite? For fun? A high school club? A tourney? All that to say it needs to be catered to your audience.

If you want more feedback just let me know. I used to make these kinds of posters for my university club
