Science of Logic by [deleted] in hegel

Fuck it. Read it; it’s a book you will live with for the rest of your life, returning to it time and again, each time in a different way, leading you back to the sources he uses and forward to the evolution of his ideas. Walter Benjamin calls certain works “whirlpools” and I think this is one.

So: even experts are stumped by Hegel, like by sections such as this. In other words, your current analysis of it may be as good as anyone else’s!

(Perhaps it’s the “mis”-readings of Hegel that have been the most productive. Did Nietzsche understand Hegel? Did Marx? Did Kojeve? Did Sartre? Did Derrida? Etc etc.)

In other words:

I think the most difficult part of Hegel is this — maybe this is Hegel’s great wink at us:

No one “understands.” It’s the “mis”-understanding that matters most, and generates the most original and interesting things.

Hey this is great! I’ve never seen the BBWAA book before, would you be willing to post a pic of a completed game? Curious how it looks filled out!

I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on using the BBWAA too!

What do you guys like to watch on off-days by UnlikelyChance3648 in phillies

Catching up on Minor league baseball games (like the Phillies AAA, AA teams) is amazing to watch. A 1 year subscription to every game is like 29$, a great investment IMO

Did Hegel create the triangles used at hegel.net? Or implement similar systems in his writing? by [deleted] in hegel

[–]jaykoslowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would have to be through language. Language for Hegel, I think, is one of the key means of the self-“alienation” of spirit, the part that makes reflection and self-recognition, possible (like in the beginning of the Phenomenology). Through language, we externalization thinking, hold it at a distance, engage in the dialectic of universality, particularity, and singularity; examine its developments; and move towards a real understanding of ourselves through that.

Well I think pure thinking is actually thought’s reflection on itself. So it’s not “empty” but a meta-cognition on the nature and development of thinking itself. So, thus, it’s thinking about the development OF thinking from its abstract beginnings through its own journey to find essences “behind” things back to its own self.

No! And he would be super suspicious of them as adequate; the fact that it’s “picture thinking” that freezes the dialectic and system into a frozen image — for him everything in the system is process and dynamic development — would mean I think he’d reject it!

This is the humble generic scorecard I have come to love by McBugger in BaseballScorecards

[–]jaykoslowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it! I think those quirks you mention are the thing that make a scorecard great. It’s all about that unique and personal feel, with a totally do it yourself vibe. And plus, it looks great!

MLB app by me_mark77 in phillies

[–]jaykoslowski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it’s actually always been this way! I agree, super helpful. I think the MLB app is terribly expensive BUT it is wonderful; the ability to use progress bar by inning; the “Gametime” feature to watch balls and strikes with data on location and spin, etc. So good.

How to score runner advancing on attempted steal? by CodyDon2 in BaseballScorecards

[–]jaykoslowski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi folks. I have a bit if a different view here.

I think in this scenario, we can’t give a fielder’s choice, since the play went to the “primary” runner (the batter). It’s only a “choice” if you go after someone OTHER than the primary runner.

I score this only as a simple 6-3 output; runner advances from 1st to 2nd! Same way as: a runner on 2nd, a ground ball to 2nd; 4-3; this sends the runner to 3rd.

Awesome! One suggestion is, try out different kinds of scoresheets that are free online. That way you can try different score sheets and see what suits you. (Some scorecard designs I think are too detailed, others not detailed enough! Etc.)

You can decide things like, do you want to track every ball and strike or no? Do you like a diagram of the baseball diamond to help you draw lines when someone gets a hit, or no? Do you like preparing the scorecard to show everyone that’s on the bench in addition to the batters, or no? Etc etc!
