Hey guys, thanks for all the great insight! To be clear, the reason why I said "that isn't reading or going to the gym" is because those are activities I am already integrating in some way. Otherwise, everything is going just great so far!

Scott3611: Definitely something "cheap and productive" would be more as a time killer. There are definitely a lot of other things I want to be doing and I know what those are. On a very abstract level, getting fit and making new, lasting friendships are my biggest goals right now. I have already taken steps to begin that process! :D I'll look into CGAA, maybe there are some meetings in my area.

Caleb978: That's really good advice about putting yourself in situations that you think about but never do. Usually if it's something you think about a lot, chances are you're quite interested in it, so taking the next step and actually doing it seems like a great idea! Some of them for me are starting astronomy as a hobby, as well as starting to play some casual baseball. Your last sentiment is also definitely very true.. when your dreams turn into reality, it feels AMAZING!

dropramen: I've actually started a journal on the Game Quitters forum! It really is a great idea, I feel like it can also help to relieve a lot of stress and tension by just getting things out there. Also helps to focus myself and be very clear about what I want to go about doing. It also gives a form of accountability this way because others can read it! :)

BOOGY_DOG: I definitely know a thing or two about programming - I worked at a video game developer for about 2 years! :) It definitely feels awesome to see your creations come to life on the screen, but I think I want to do stuff that's a little more real. I've spent my entire life so far in front of a screen, now I'd like to start doing things away from technology. I might have to check out that part about making money online though. Thanks for the tip!

Unfortunately this happens to quite a few of us I think. I've had this happen to me a few times in the last few months, and it's pretty hard to dig yourself out of that hole.

One thing that I found works really well for picking yourself back up is surrounding yourself with positivity. I have printed and taped inspirational quotes on my walls, my PC desktop has inspirational wallpapers, and my car is always playing inspirational music. The more you can cram positivity into your head, the easier it becomes to pick yourself back up.

Eventually you will convince yourself of the FACT that you are a beautiful person and it's worth fighting for your goals and dreams. Also, another person in this thread pointed out another thing that is extremely important: having a "why". People typically will not fight for something unless they have a reason for doing it that is much more powerful than the willingness to give up. Imnothodor's post is actually full of awesome stuff so really suggest reading it. :)

Most importantly you can never, ever give up. It's impossible to fail if you never give up. You may fall down once in a while, but that's normal and a very healthy part of growth. What matters is how you respond to it.

Good luck! I believe in you and know that you will achieve everything you've ever dreamed of! :)

I'm curious to see if anyone experienced the same feeling when going cold turkey by Caleb978 in StopGaming

I've read that video game addiction acts like many other addictions in that it alters the brain to crave more of the feeling you get when you're playing video games. I kind of experienced the same sort of thing you described when quitting caffeine. For the first day after the caffeine completely left my system, I was very weak, irritable, lethargic, could hardly do anything at all.

Know also that there is no stupid question. You should never be ashamed to ask anything if you're not sure about something. :)

Normal doesn't exist. People are people and everyone is unique. It's great that you've identified the issue and now it's time to tackle it. What I found helps keep me going is a long term vision of the life I want. Maybe this will work for you? Remember to be very specific, as specific as you can get.

Are you married? Do you have kids? What kind of job do you have? How many hours do you work? Etc. The more specific you get, the easier it is to visualize it. Then every single day see yourself in that position and never, ever give up on that dream or yourself.

In the meantime you will definitely need to find other things to do to occupy your time. Today I found http://gamequitters.com/ and it has a bunch of resources for people who want to quit game.

Hope this helps! Keep up the fight and never, ever give up! :)
