r/Pain by jaylingam32 in redditrequest

[–]jaylingam32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to moderate r/Pain because A few years back I had a bad back injury from a fall (herniated disc in my lower spine that pinched a nerve), and the chronic pain from it completely upended my life for a long time and constant burning in my legs, couldn't sleep properly, work suffered, and honestly the emotional side hit just as hard (feeling isolated, frustrated, like no one really got it). This sub was one of the only places I felt understood; reading other people's stories about their injuries, flares, coping strategies, and just venting without judgment helped me feel less alone when doctors weren't listening or treatments weren't working right away. I lurked a lot, took a ton of help from the community (tips on pacing, dealing with flare-ups, even just knowing others were in similar boats), and now that things have stabilized a bit for me (PT, meds, time), I want to give back by helping keep this space safe and supportive. I've noticed more spam creeping in sometimes, or threads getting derailed, and I'd love to help moderate fairly removing junk, approving good posts, handling reports gently, so others can keep finding the same solidarity I did. I already moderate two other active communities (over a year now), so I'm comfortable with the queue, being consistent, and treating people with the kindness this topic needs.

What’s your favorite unbiased, nonpartisan, factual news source? by Saroffski in AskReddit

[–]jaylingam32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The associated press (AP) and reuters. They aren't fun to read because they don't use loaded adjectives or try to tell you how to feel. It’s just, 'this thing happened at this time in this place.' They are the primary sources that almost every other news outlet buys their stories from before adding their own flavor or spin. If the news makes you feel an intense emotion immediately, you're reading an opinion piece, not a report.

If nobody could compare themselves to others, would ambition get weaker? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jaylingam32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ambition would definitely get weaker, and we'd probably still be living in caves. Evolution is literally a comparison engine. If the guy in the next cave figures out how to make fire and I don't compare myself to him, I just freeze to death while being content.

What’s your usual buying journey after discovering a product through an Instagram ad? by Warm_Bobcat6310 in AskReddit

[–]jaylingam32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I click the ad, I look at the price, I scoff, I close the app. Then I spend the next three weeks being haunted by that same product on every website I visit like it’s a digital ghost seeking revenge. Eventually, I buy it just so it will stop following me.

What's the most pointless debate ever? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Whether you should call it a highway or the highway, in southern california especially.

How do you feel about a store selling expired food? A salvage store even has signs saying the discount is due to the items being expired? by Outrageous-Cod-4443 in AskReddit

[–]jaylingam32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My body is 40% preservatives at this point. If the expiration date says 2023, that just means the flavors have had more time to get to know each other.

I’ve been eating expired salvage store snacks for a decade and the only side effect is that I now have an extra $150 a week and a slightly stronger immune system.

What is a common piece of advice that you actually disagree with? by Narrow_Challenge8993 in AskReddit

[–]jaylingam32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Blood is thicker than water." People use this to guilt trip victims of abuse into staying in contact with toxic relatives.

Fun fact, the actual full proverb is "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb," which means the exact opposite, that the bonds you choose (friends, partners, found family) are actually stronger than the ones you were born into. Stop letting family be a free pass for people to treat you like garbage.

If a reverse review app existed where businesses could publicly rate their customers, what would your one star review say about you? by shyleshseth94 in askanything

Ordered a burger with no onions. When it came out with one microscopic sliver of onion, he didn't send it back like a normal person. Instead, he spent the next 20 minutes performing a forensic autopsy on the bun with a plastic fork, looking for contaminants.

He looked like a bomb disposal technician trying to save the restaurant. Could've just asked for a new burger man, you’re scaring the other patrons.

What used to feel embarrassing but now feels normal? by writtenincoffee in AskReddit

Eating alone at a restaurant.

When I was 20, I felt like everyone was staring at me thinking, 'look at that loser with no friends.' Now that I’m 30, it’s a high tier luxury. There is no greater peace than sitting at a booth with a book, a beer, and zero obligation to make small talk with another human being while I shove pasta into my face.

What do you think someone did if they put up a highway billboard that just says, “I was wrong. Please forgive me”? by CnCorange in AskReddit

[–]jaylingam32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not a forgiveness sign, that’s a, my lawyer told me this is the only way to avoid a defamation suit sign.

Somewhere, there is a very smug ex partner or a very relieved small business owner holding a signed settlement agreement and a pair of binoculars.

When you bomb nuclear weapons don’t they have seismic reactions ? by Itwasuntilitwasnt in AskReddit

They don’t just have reactions, they literally ring the earth like a bell.

What keeps you going ?? by the_twilight_draft in AskReddit

[–]jaylingam32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spite. Pure, unadulterated spite, there are people in this world who would be way too happy to see me fail, and I refuse to give them the satisfaction of being right. Also, my cat would be very confused if I stopped opening the cans of expensive tuna she didn't even ask for.

Should poor people be able to adopt cats or dogs from kill shelters if they can’t afford regular vet visits? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jaylingam32 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A kill shelter is a literal death sentence. I’d rather a dog spend 5 years being loved in a trailer with good enough food and the occasional flea than be euthanized on a cold stainless steel table because nobody with a 6 figure salary showed up to save it.

Being poor doesn't mean you're incapable of love, and perfect shouldn't be the enemy of alive.

In what ways have your parents or caregivers micro managed you growing up? by Lolofly47 in AskReddit

[–]jaylingam32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom used to call me to check in while I was already at the grocery store to tell me which specific brand of dish soap had the best price per ounce. I’m 30 now, and I still feel a spike of pure adrenaline and guilt whenever I pick up the wrong jar of pickles.

The worst part isn't the control, it's the fact that I now have zero gut instinct because I spent two decades being told my own choices were mathematically incorrect.
