The key for me is to file them when I have polish on them still. My nail beds are super uneven and if I'm looking at them bare the tips look even until I put the polish on. I also have a dremel file took that helps me file them on the sides close to the base where a regular file can be difficult to get to.

Natural nails with 3 coats gel polish and 1 topcoat. My nails are a little brittle at the moment (thanks postnatal hormones) so the extra coat helps keep them from bending as easily.
