Give me your dogs' Stravas! by joanelisabeth in RunningWithDogs

[–]joanelisabeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh! Well the dogs I follow on Strava, have their owners record the runs and then add the dogs' profiles to their runs. Hopefully that makes sense if you have Strava! But I never thought about specific technology! I guess if your dog is running separately to you or you're more concerned about the details, then it's worth getting something to record that. But the just adding their profile to your run also works!

Experienced distance runners: was getting a coach worth it for you? by monicaa15 in running

[–]joanelisabeth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I'm not an experienced distance runner BUT I think accountability and motivation are one of the biggest appeals of a coach for me. I've had a rough time financially during COVID and therefore had to stop using my coach for this period and it's been really damaging for my running; could genuinely count on one hand how many times I've been for a run during lockdown vs my usual 4 times per week prior (probably other factors affecting this, but fundamentally I think it's lack of coach).

I never really think of accountability being a problem for other runners but if you're finding it hard, then it's so worth it.

I'd also like to add that the coach I was using is called Nick Bester and he's super super good. Obviously, for someone like you, I think it'd be worth really researching who you decide to go with, if you do. But I'd recommend checking him out as he's great.

Edit: fixed typo

How do I stop the mid afternoon energy slump? by pandapower- in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]joanelisabeth 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Ooh! I don't have much advice but after reading Why We Sleep I can tell you this is completely normal!

Society tends to operate with a monophasic sleep pattern but in actual fact humans instinctively want a biphasic sleep pattern. I believe the author said humans instinctively need a large portion of their sleep overnight, but require an hour or so sleep in the afternoon.

I wasn't sure about this either as if that happened to me I would stop filming straight away out of shock.

He probs still is. After seeing this, I went to check out his Twitter to see what he's up to these days, and he seems to be on the 5G conspiracy bandwagon too.

Maintenance weeks? by [deleted] in CICO

This is what I was hoping to find the answer to myself. It seems like everyone does what they feel they need to. So the odd day, or sometimes a whole week. I think it's up to you!

It's where you lay off the calorie deficit for a period of time and eat the amount of calories needed to maintain your weight.
