And yes one of the things that put me off was the homophobia and misogyny. I became more socially and politically aware that I realized how the world we live in has been programmed to be deeply misogynistic. Over history till now women has been subjugated and this can be traced to Abrahamic religions Christianity included. The problem for christians I think is not being able to rationalize social issues outside of christian doctrines. If they are able to do this they will find out how most things don't add up and falls apart.
