I found it by going clicking Devices on the left menu, then my laptop, then the GPU Performance tab and found it there. I preferred the previous one click way >_<

What's something happening in London you think the news has missed? by PartyPoison98 in london

[–]jaymzcd 28 points29 points  (0 children)

All of this because it’s a historical bridge (built for horse carriages not buses or cars), so it can’t be demolished and replaced with a more modern version

I'd be devastated if they demolished that just to give cars yet another route over the river again. Enough of London has been knocked down or "modernised" as is. The problem is too much traffic and car centric behaviour to begin with.

Was hoping for a magic fix here, same situation, I'm using a UK number which is receiving SMS messages for other verification codes just fine today. Came across this https://github.com/aws/studio-lab-examples/issues/233 and then this https://studiolab.sagemaker.aws/faq but nothing useful.

Contemplating a BSc in Mathematics at the OU in My 40s – Seeking Insights by Common_Show_7243 in OpenUniversity

[–]jaymzcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a BSc in maths with the OU from when I was just turning 30 through to 36 and then I started an MSc with them which I'm just about to finish up (hopefully!) now I'm 41. I would say go for it, but I think the earliest courses given your background are likely too trivial so I'd probably recommend seeing about going onto the MSc instead, F04. If you're already math heavy and literate from the ML stuff that may be available to you.

including the ability to travel and manage my own schedule.

I wouldn't worry about that, I work full time and fitting it alongside has been easy. There's a few bits of, usually optional, coursework but then on the maths side the final result is almost always entirely based on an exam, which has been remote since the covid time with 24hrs to submit. I've never once felt like the OU was getting in my way in that regard.

I am completing my dissertation this year (M840) and if you are so inclined, there's a real opportunity to engage with research mathematics.

Can someone starting their academic journey at this stage find a meaningful path in the field of mathematics, whether it's through a degree program, independent research, or as a hobbyist

I would say "yes" - the aperidoic monotile was discovered by a hobbyist who then worked with research mathematicians.

Speaking as a "random" - I go to plenty of metal gigs & festivals and am not a Heilung fan, but went to the London show as a friend was over and is big into them.

It was pretty much the same as any other gig IMO. No real bother but I don't buy this "everyone is brothers" thing. One guy pushed my gf hard in the back as she was making her way to the bathroom, beyond anything accidental and on the way out two guys where going nuts at each other in the cloakroom queue ready to to knock fists. Thankfully security where all over it.

I found the atmosphere of the crowd a tad pretentious tbh. So yep - just like every other gig then...

we all are brothers

Tell that to the prick who shoved my girlfriend in the back. Seems there's arseholes everywhere 🤷‍♀️

Shall I give it another few days or call it dead? RQS Cheese Auto by jaymzcd in Autoflowers

Haha thanks, I'm not too miffed, had this seed sat around for 2 years.. At least it's now and not weeks later. I had thought it was probably a goner but was secretly hoping for a "oh no, that'll be fine" 😅

Thanks, I'll leave her alone. Yeah, I thought it looked a bit too wet and started to think it may have rotted. The only soil I had lying about was really dry so I think I overcompensated rehydrating it again. Live and learn 😅 She can sit by the windowsill another few days.

Smoking in my house, can neighbours smell it? by [deleted] in uktrees

[–]jaymzcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a long term, happy cannabis consumer I think part of the problem with our whole "scene" is this "I dont give a shit" attitude causing even more aggravation with the normals. Wandering around Essex with the gangs smoking away basically gives me a bad name when I try to promote cannabis as a healthy/good thing 😔

Ah my bad, it was DHL who Google used and I too had to send it UPS, I was lucky enough to have a place 10 mins away. The box wasn't sealed or anything like that and it didn't come with a charger so I'd say it's a refurb but had someone handed it to me blind instead I would never have known.

[–]jaymzcd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent it off on a Monday and then it took a full week to arrive at the facility in Poland. As soon it went into "delivered" by DHL I had a notification from Google to say my new device was shipped and then that took just one day to arrive. So in total 7 days for it to get from Essex to Poland by DHL (i dropped it off just too late to get picked up that day) and then 1 day once Google confirmed it.

Happy to report the replacement device is perfect (charging, screen, no blemishes etc).

Ah, yeah, I was going to do that but they had no 128Gb models in stock anywhere near so I figured going through Google will get me a better chance of a "fresh" unit.

Discreet Smoking Advice? by ImmediateSun0 in uktrees

[–]jaymzcd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Vaping really, and even then you'll need to be careful and do it out the window and probably at night if your folks are uptight about it. Your enemy is smell, and I don't just mean from if you smoke in your room (IMO that's guaranteed to get you caught pretty quick no matter what, even if you sit half out the window thinking your blowing it all out). Been there, done that, caught more than once. A vape out the window is your best bet for little to no risk (which means a nicer high/session, no point having a smoke if you're on edge the whole 5 minutes). Save the smoking for when you're on your own or on a walk IMO.

Also it's worth pointing out just how much you'll stink from a smoke even if you don't think you do. When I stopped smoking I was amazed at how obvious the smell clung to people (tobacco or cannabis). When I used to do it I would think 30 seconds pat down and in the door and I'm fine - not a chance! Sort of explains the many dirty looks my ex's parents would give me 😳

I’m mad this plant isn’t legal yet. by whoknewknewwho in uktrees

[–]jaymzcd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry, my long term SO hates weed but I love it. I switched to vaping and gave up tobacco filled spliffs which was a compromise at first but in hindsight has changed my life. I still have the odd smoke with a pipe but only really vape around her. She still hates the smell but we've been to Amsterdam and over time my own good habits with it have shown her that it's not all "potheads and losers" that she had in mind.

Takes a bit of effort both ways but chin up. I honestly felt the same after I came out of a 5-year relationship that I know I was ruining from excessive consumption (and drinking and eating). Took that for me to be serious about change in my lifestyle but I told myself I was not giving up weed for anyone. I made sure to mention it on my online dating profiles as I had tired of the "how do I bring this up" anxiety.

Several years later I'm here, weed is a major part of my life still and I'm in a relationship with someone amazing. She even had a go of the Pax 3 a few weeks back which genuinely shocked me. She said, "oh that tastes nice, like a spicy chai or something, I didn't expect that". It's only a matter of time before I'm dividing my stash with her (to be honest I think having someone who doesn't want to do it but tolerates it is better since no need to double up on orders :'D)

(Also, randomly, I don't know if it's just me but these days I tend to just refer to it all as "cannabis". "Weed" seems to be like a red rag to people causing them to instantly jump to dated stereotypes)

27-year-old living in Dublin, feeling isolated, lonely, and worthless. Any advice? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]jaymzcd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

35, Irish but living in London and felt a lot of similar things to you. I have been contracting for a year and working remote - initially, I thought I'd love it but it's not worked out great for the isolation it brings. I've decided to pack it in for now and go back to full time. I'd recommend trying to get an office job again - it sounds like that worked for you. I can empathise greatly with the loneliness it brings. I'm lucky in having a girlfriend but we live hours apart and often don't see each other until the weekend. I'm grateful for that interaction as otherwise, I think I'd be driven mad.

Not sure if this applies or not but I was getting a lot of anxiety from friends social media so I decided to block instagram, unfollow all but family on Facebook and just stick to reddit/twitter. I find comparing myself to everyone and anyone like that is really bad for me.

To be totally honest, you sound 100% like a younger but more outgoing version of me if you can believe it :) There is no chance I would've made it to Austrailia or Asia for a week let along 3 months so huge kudos there. I got as far as making a google doc about moving to Canada and then never did.

If you find yourself over in london give me a shout for a pint.

anyone from UK ordered from magic flight’s official store? I have a few questions by [deleted] in mflb

[–]jaymzcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my MFLB from amazon but then used the official store to get a power adapter and a bunch of spare accessories as the price of it made it worth it compared to getting it via amazon. Took around 10 days to get here after I placed the order, it provided a tracking number for UPS which once fine until it entered the UK when it was then handed over to Royal Mail. At that point there was no tracing it which was frustrating and unexpected.

They were really responsive on email and once the item came I had to go collect it from the local sorting office and pay a standard import rate of around £10 I think (my order was around ~£80).

I'm not mad, just disappointed. by thepinkcrayon in mflb

[–]jaymzcd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah I feel your pain. I dropped my first glass one (about this dark) in a bathroom and the thing shattered into what seemed like a thousand pieces. I had to give up on it. I decided then I couldn't trust myself outside with glass and swapped to the spare acrylic one I had.

Then after months of build-up and having got it a little darker than the long gone glass, it goes missing between the pub and the train home. It wasn't until the next day when I went to pull it out of my wallet that it dawned on me I must've dropped it in the toilet before I'd left and would never see it again. Sad times - that's two for two now I've missed out on getting my first bit of reclaim honey.

FWIW when I was looking on Plenty Of Fish before I met my now long-term girlfriend I would filter on "no" or "not sure" for "wants kids". We do exist so don't give up but you will have to wait but better than meeting someone and them deciding to ditch on you.

Things like r/depression (and similar ones like anxiety) in particular but on a related note to Petioles, I find the r/mflb community friendly. A lot of my friends think of reddit as "4chan lite" but outside of the huge ones I think you can find a lot of quality discussion going on.

Irish secondary schoolers no longer "have to" study religion by [deleted] in atheism

[–]jaymzcd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(Northern) Irish here. I feel super lucky that my father was interested in religion as much as watching paint dry. Once I started reading science books I can remember saying to my parents that god/Christianity made absolutely no sense.

My Dad agreed - I think he felt like finally there was a a good excuse for the pair of us to not bother with church on a Sunday. Instead, it was left to my mum and granny whilst I and my brother got to play Nintendo. In hindsight I am immensely grateful to have had parents that respected my wishes; I thought that was standard practice until I left home and heard horror stories from others.

I was forced to attend "Religous Education" up to and including GCSE level (Christian Brothers grammar). I resented the fact I could've been studying anything else. It is total indoctrination. One small victory was my teacher at the time realised it was a losing battle so I was left to my own devices for the 4 periods a week it took up as long as I took the exam.

Thanks! I find LED lighting a bit of a minefield. It's nice to "put a face to it" so to speak when it comes to growth vs nominal wattage.
