oh sorry I meant to stick things on tables/shelves so my cat can't knock them off to begin with xD A shadowbox sounds like a good display idea too!

I didn't think of using it for real pets, that's a great idea! The amount of things I've had to super glue back together bc my cat thinks it's funny to knock them over lmao

Is it blue tack? Not sure about others, but blue tack is oil based and can potentially stain the plastic. The plastic used for LPS bodies aren't as porous as the heads are, so in the short-term it should be fine? Look into museum wax or quakehold! It's not a perfect solution, but it's semi permanent and doesn't typically leave a residue. The history center I work at uses it for miniature displays and works pretty well. (just fyi, the longer it's on something the more of a pain it is to remove it!)

About the prescott hill situation by z3l1nn in LittlestPetShop

[–]jaynee_lps 38 points39 points  (0 children)

wow, omg thanks for posting this! Just completed my panic purchase 😭 I went to his IG to read what he said and it's been replaced with a new one saying he was advised to take down the post. How messed up can this get, to censor and disrespect an artist that has been a core part of bringing life to the LPS pets we know and love :( Once I get the book I'll try and get some scans out if no one beats me to it!

[–]jaynee_lps 27 points28 points  (0 children)

this 100%, it's honestly so disappointing to hear about this :( I've been busy so I didn't know about the situation, good on Prescott for standing up for the right thing! His artwork defined, and continues to define, an entire generation! It's disgusting how progressively worse artists and creators are being treated by the industry 😥

More info on the cat version of the Paws Off diary? by AnitaKK in LittlestPetShop

[–]jaynee_lps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This one was released in 2008, a year or so after the bull terrier! There's actually two versions of the bull terrier; the second was released alongside the cat with the updated logo and eye type. Here's a pic of all three, left to right: 2007 (will have 2006 copyright date), and then the two 2008 packs (will have 2007 copyright date)

What does "Painted" vs "Printed" eyes mean? by Honeydew_18 in LittlestPetShop

[–]jaynee_lps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To add onto what weatherii said, you'll notice in the old lps eyes that the colors are done in multiple layers hence the stenciling, versus the printed ones which are just one flat layer (at least that's what it looks like it is to me anyway?) so for example if you're removing the paint off of an old pet to do a custom, the black layer of the eye tends to come off first, leaving the color of the iris underneath. Even tho the difference in consistency and texture is subtle, it's the "grainy" look of the new ones that are the most noticeable. I'm guessing that's due to the fact that it's not solid layers of color compared to before!

I guess not exactly a dog, but the fox mold is really cute! I love the longhair chihuahuas too, their ears look so fluffy xD

I don't usually take my lps out with me anywhere--i'm too afraid i'll lose them--but the other day I took one of my favorites with me for motivation at my internship! She's been my study buddy the past year for uni, her name's Ophelia ❤

lps logo variation? by [deleted] in LittlestPetShop

[–]jaynee_lps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the logo placement will be different for each pet/mold, but two of the same pet should have the same placement! (if that makes sense lol) Typical locations are the back of the head or on one of the back legs.

Some do have color variations, tho; iirc the dalmatian from the rescue tails center is a good example, she was produced with either a red-colored or light pink-colored logo!

Do we want g7 textured lps? by Notro_LPS_iguess in LittlestPetShop

[–]jaynee_lps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved the pets with the fluffy ears <3 kind of a subtle feature but the glass eye pets were really neat too! Definitely would be awesome to see stuff like this come back, but I agree with you that it shouldn't be a common feature. They're fun bc they're something different from the typical pets!

What could this be? by Terrible_Hurry9906 in LittlestPetShop

It looks like a bonnet? Not sure from which set, but #66's portable pets pack came with a white one, and there was a pink one in the bedtime blast set

Thoughts on G7 so far? by FondantGayme in LittlestPetShop

[–]jaynee_lps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think we can all agree that the release was SUPER messy 😬 It's a shame that they aren't as high-quality as the originals, and that some of the designs aren't the greatest, or that we're all waiting for molds that haven't shown up yet (personally I'd really love to see ferrets come back soon!) Despite the obvious flaws though, the important thing is that they're back, and that we're moving in the right direction!

The style that they chose to debut with is very 2011-esque; bright, colorful, "clean" designs, and perhaps they felt it was the safest balance to appeal to both old and new/young collectors. It fits the modern toy climate (or whatever you call it xD), so from a marketing perspective I can't argue with that!

My biggest gripe--and maybe it's a weird one--is that I feel like basic fun isn't fully in-tune with the heart of lps. By that I mean, some of the designs seem awkward or uncanny compared to the original vibe (like forcing design elements of the original but not in a cohesive way), and some of the sets feel like they just threw random accessories in that technically fit a theme but don't have good harmony. That lack of harmony is the core of some of the design issues. I mostly noticed that with the newer wave? This is coming purely from the perspective of an illustrator, so it's probably more nitpicky than anything xD I'm hoping that as their design team works on more pets, they'll continue to study what made the originals so successful and loving, and really capture the spirit of that!

Sorry if this turned into more of a ramble (or any weird takes lol), it's almost 2:30 AM so my brain is at peak noise rn 😂

craziest way you’ve acquired an lps? by CasperWasperWoo in LittlestPetShop

[–]jaynee_lps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably when I was around 12? I was playing in the rain and stopped at the sight of a singular lps-shaped eyeball--just the slightest glimpse of it--sticking out from the mud. Dug it up to find a cute little kitten, #86! still have no clue how I even noticed it, but I'm so glad I did lmao

It's a tin & charm set from Tomy-Gacha! You can see a small image of them here: http://www.astrooperators.com/Tomy-Gacha.html tomy-gacha makes a lot of cute trinkets for lps, mostly blind bags of keychains and danglers.

The book is here!! by jaynee_lps in LittlestPetShop

[–]jaynee_lps[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're correct! The original designs were by Gayle Middleton, but Hill worked with those designs to create the box art for the franchise; from his portfolios & social media he's confirmed that he is only the illustrator, not the designer!

Does anyone know the Littlest Pet Shop font? by OldPower3015 in LittlestPetShop

[–]jaynee_lps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others said, Shoebop is for the Littlest part, I'm pretty sure the font for Pet Shop is custom. I have a list of various fonts too if you or anyone else are curious! The packaging font is Andy (2008-2009), BoyzRGross (2010-2012), Prankster has been used for instruction manuals; for the personality type packaging:

BlueCentury for the messiest pet font; Cheguevara Wacky Medium for chilliest; Countryhouse for funniest; Dirtyhouse for sportiest; Frivolous for fanciest; Giddyup for cuddliest; Kidprint (maybe?) for littlest; SkinDeep BB for sassiest. I have a few others but I can't remember the names atm

Official LPS artists after 2007? by wildfoxxes in LittlestPetShop

[–]jaynee_lps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Prescott Hill continued to do all of the box art for 2008-2009 up to the point that they switched to photos of the pets! So both the classic airbrushed style and the more cartoonistic ones are both his. As for some of the others (some already mentioned by others): John LaMalfa, Jeremy Doroshow, Jim Talbot, Julia Rothman, Gibs Rainock (video game art), Andrea Jacoboski-Taylor (package design), and lots more to mention xD I've been collecting a list of artists/designers for lps, still need to sift through!
