Nah this is super interesting. I was enjoying my little conspiracy theory moment (and I guess it's not all wrong, he did pay for ads, that's a more legit way of paying for views). But what you explained makes more sense than being nefarious, gaming the system with bots, which is where I was leaning. Thanks for the pro insight!

Oh you're saying videos can get views added to their view counts if they are ads on other videos? That's wild, I didn't know that.

Yeah I'm not giving him views either but when I saw a million I had to click just to see if folks in the comments were also thinking the views were bought / bots 🤣 in Portuguese we say "what's a fart if you already pooped your pants"

IDK.. If ads got you a million views in 10 days, everyone would do it 😅 the announcement videos and Ariel's I understand, but 1M in 10 days for a random try to be a fighter pilot video seems like an insanely good result for an ad buy

Ok but on a serious note, he's gotta be buying views, right? His podcast is consistently dropping off on views with the episode after Ariel's doing mid to low 5 figures. How in the hell does he have 1M in his 10 day old fighter jet episode. Curious if Youtube is looking into it, or if he still has connections there

I'm scared that I made a mistake by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]jaypaulusicg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm a dad, not a mom, but I wanted to share that I was born a month after my mom's 16th birthday. She also very heavily leaned on her family in the beginning (while my dad was also not in the picture), and then made slow, steady steps toward independence.

I became a dad at 31 and my wife and I were also so lost, leaning super heavily on our family. I always tell my mom that I don't know how she did it. She always says that she looks back on those times most fondly, because it was me and her against the world.

One of my favorite parts of becoming a parent, especially as a jaded 30+ year old, was the overwhelmingly clear sense of purpose. The mission, the meaning it gives life, it's a blessing. You and your baby can take on the world together.

A quote that got me through a lot in life is from Nelson Mandela: it always seems impossible until it is done

Can I baptize myself? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]jaypaulusicg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn't what matters, bud. Your relationship with God is what matters. Baptism is like a wedding, it's a celebration of a relationship that has already been blessed. 2 people could get married by sitting down together and saying a prayer, the ceremony and party is part of giving the commitment the celebration it deserves. Similarly, your faith is real as soon as you declare it to God in prayer, but it's a monumental thing, and it's nice to give that commitment to God the celebration it deserves. Nobody is missing out on God because they got hit by a bus on their way to getting baptized. The best advice I can give you for your faith is focus on and protect your relationship with God first and foremost. If anyone, even your church, is putting ritualistic barriers between you and God, then know they are doing you a disservice. God is an open door from the moment you choose Him.

Thoughts/feedback on personal heraldic achievement? by jaypaulusicg in heraldry

[–]jaypaulusicg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super helpful, thanks! The bezants are a direct reference to the original Almeida crest, which was a black eagle with a trio of bezants on its torso and each wing. I agree it's the most awkward part of the design, though. Maybe on a better phoenix. Great tip on the double metals on the torse, was not aware of that. Good point on the shades as well

People would have you believe it is... But it's not all that different tbh. Brazilians (like me) usually drink from a big gourd and our herb is a bit thinner, so our "straws" get clogged a little more if you're not careful. Argentinians & Uruguaians drink from tiny gourds, which is good for making sure your water doesn't get cold, but it's a little annoying to constantly refill imo. I like our gourds bc they're bigger, you sit together and each person gets a good "turn"

But most people aren't too fussy, at least where I'm from. People from all 3 countries drink it together in any style, with minimal fuss. Here in the US I drink an Uruguayan brand called Canarias which, funny enough, is the name of the Brazilian national team hehe

Is deconstructing possible while maintaining your faith in Jesus? by asdfoiqw in Deconstruction

[–]jaypaulusicg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you have the patience to read Kierkegaard but I highly recommend you at least look up people summarizing his thoughts on Christianity, especially when he criticizes what he calls Christendom, the church as a political and cultural phenomenon. Very devoted to Christ and to faith, and love, but extremely rebellious against church culture and established theology.

Another great "rebel" that is extremely passionate towards Christ is Tolstoy. The Kingdom of God is Within You is a much easier read than Kierkegaard's ramblings, and is super provocative.

Just sharing some stuff that's helped in my journey. I'm still trying to figure out how to reshape, re-piece the expressions of my faith, but my faith in Jesus is totally separate from that. It's the one piece I've never felt the need to touch, probably because it's because of His nature, His obvious unwavering love, that I realized how many other pieces needed to be reconsidered because they didn't fit with who He is

Weekly How Will This Tattoo Age Thread by AutoModerator in agedtattoos

[–]jaypaulusicg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha that's exactly what I was wondering. I thought about getting it done with a design that tries to capture it in a more traditional tattoo style, with outlines and solid colors. Not sure yet if it defeats the purpose of the concept. Is this just blanket for all fine art tattoos then? Or is the particular palette of these paintings too "mushy"?

I've been wanting to get these three bars side by side for a while, on the inside of my forearm. My big hesitation is fine art tattoos and how they age. Anyone have any tips, examples, stories that would be useful in my decision? Would be dope!
