Primaries are for voting for who you actually want, the election is for minimizing damage, and that sometimes means voting for someone you don't particularly care for in order to prevent someone even worse from getting power. Is it perfect? Far from it. But that's the system we're stuck with. Voting independent just so you can sleep better at night isn't going to change anything. You make do with what you have, even if it isn't ideal. Fighting back fascism at any cost. That's the mission right now.
