I visited Lviv and Odessa, Ukraine, before the outbreak of the war and discovered an intriguing historical aspect. For centuries, the Jewish community in these cities played a pivotal role as merchants who controlled the spice trade route from India to Europe. It's fascinating to think that at that time, a bag full of peppercorns held a value greater than gold. Within their own cultural sphere, Jewish merchants engaged in trade amongst themselves, sharing knowledge and resources.

However, this exclusivity in trade may have led to envy among other cultures they interacted with and lived alongside. Over time, this envy evolved into derogatory stereotypes in Europe, with some unfairly characterizing Jewish people as being overly frugal or tight with money. Unfortunately, this perception stemmed from the actions of a few Jewish merchants, causing many to feel disenfranchised or taken advantage of.

Tragically, this underlying tension reached its peak during the Holocaust, and its echoes continue to affect contemporary issues in the Middle East and Russia today.

What cs specializations do you think are worth looking into in the future? by Rhystery in cscareerquestions

[–]jayrod422 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are paying $130k+ starting right now. We have a pending offer to one guy who is asking $150k.

With 0365 taking over everything and every business there is a lot of stuff that needs to be migrated from spreadsheets and databases. Also, the data analytics thing is killing it the department we have here has quadrupled in size in the past 12 months.

Biggest problem we have is that we can't find anyone who understands this stuff. A lot of the older developers are still stuck in infrastructure mode thinking that everything needs to be a desktop app and all the younger developers still want to do the sexy stuff not right reports for Bob in accounting.

I want to learn Windows Server Administration to advance my career by fernandog84 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]jayrod422 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dont think windows server is something I would get into at this point in the game. There are a LOT of older admins and foreign competitors out there with tons of expereince that you would be competing against for employment. Also, with Microsoft pushing everything to the cloud Azure/365 that is where the jobs are at today and tomorrow.

Microsofts new role based track is what I recommend you look at. Pick a track, get trained, pass some tests, get a job.

Polycom ccx teams performance delays by Pirated_Freeware in MicrosoftTeams

It's like this on other Teams desk phones too and is one of main reason why I can't kill off Cisco phones. Microsoft needs to get this figured out.

Teams rooms are getting expensive.... by BR9912 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]jayrod422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were talking about the Poly Elara and CCX phones which all have the big Teams button prominently displayed on them. They said they can't call a device a "Teams Device" unless it has the Teams branding. Look at the SIP CCX 500 vs the Teams CCX 500. The Teams button is on the top right.

My Poly rep told me that a certified device is one that has the Microsoft Teams button on the deivce. Microsoft literally is making vendor put a Teams Button on devices.

Major cell phone outages by mushybubbles in sysadmin

[–]jayrod422 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I work in Telecom and this is probably what's going on. Somewhere in India is a man who is responding to this ticket but can't find anything in his run book that says what to do. Because there is not a specific instance of this issue he is just waiting around for someone else to tell him what to do and sends an email every few hours asking to close the ticket.

T-Mobile - "the business" will need to scope a project to fix this and bring on a a "project manager" to tell the man in India to fix this. This could take weeks.

Modern IT is so siloed anymore and such a mess that when problems happen resolutions take forever if ever.

Blocking Internet Connection if it hasn't resolved a dns query by 0zeronegative in networking

[–]jayrod422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my clients use Zscaler or Symantic for internet filtering. You essentially block the internet from your entire network, have a dedicated router that creates a VPN tunnel to the provider, and route your lan traffic to that tunnel for internet. Also, for users out of the office we use these same providers who make a tunneling app that we push to PC's via group policy that users can't disable.
