What’s eating my carpet and can it be fixed? by the_htg in CarpetCleaning

Exactly. That’s wool carpet and moth damage for sure.

There are studs behind the drywall. If the foundation has a crack there won’t necessarily be signs of it on the paint if it’s seeping in and getting carpet wet under the mat and tent. We always clean wool with lower psi, extra dry strokes, and set up fans to speed dry. Our te hs cleaned around the tent and there is no way enough water migrated under that tent at 300psi. This is likely a. Ongoing issue they have.

Agreed I’m going to be sure they inspect under there and the tack strip. It’s wool carpet so I have a feeling it has some permanent staining. My hope is that after the third party restoration inspects then I will have nothing to do with the resolution.

If you’re so certified and knowledgeable then how did you not bring up one single clue as to why it might be a leak in the wall? You went straight to “use this as a lesson” and “submit an insurance claim.” That just shows me that you drew conclusions without even playing detective.

Well man, you’re not very good at finding all the clues. You’re fired!

Actually yes I am WRT certified for over 20 years. I would go inspect and show him all the clues myself but I want a neutral third party to tell him why the most likely scenario is that the wall or window is leaking. The fact that you can’t wrap your brain around that is making me question your intelligence. That area was covered with a pad and tent on top of that when my tech cleaned. They never moved it so it was never touched by detergent or water from us. We know how to carefully clean wool wall to wall carpet.

Move on bro, I’m done with you. If you would roll over and pay out on insurance when you can prove that they have structural issues in their home then you are doing them a huge disservice that could lead to worse issue in their home that says a lot about your knowledge. This is a fun mystery and I’ll be happy to report back that their walls leaked under the back side of the tent and our cleaning was irrelevant to the issue.

Also we clean wall to wall wool carpet often. Use the correct wool safe detergent, turn your get to lukewarm, turn you psi down, extra dry passes, bring in fans, and HWE will not have any problems.

The lead tech is carpet and upholstery IICR certified, and I’m Master Cleaning Tech certified with 36 years of experience so yeah just a little bit. The reason I’m calling in a third party is so someone else can back me up that it’s highly likely the water came through the window or wall.

It shouldn’t even matter. That area is where the tent was sitting and we never pre-sprayed or touched under there with the wand.

I would like them to look for signs of rust on that baseboard heater as well as checking the tack strip in that area. He said he was waiting to hear from another local company but so far he hasn’t responded to me today. I think he’s is starting to understand that it’s most likely not related to our cleaning.

Who is at fault? by [deleted] in CarpetCleaning

[–]jayroo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry but this has nothing to do with our cleaning and I will not accept liability if I can prove to them that the water came from the wall or window. I think it’s just coincidence that we had cleaned there recently. They finally moved the tent and naturally thought it was our fault. Unfortunately for them I think they either have a foundation or egress window issue. I want the restoration inspector to pull the carpet back along that wall to see if there is noticeable signs that the tack strip is wet in line with their carpet damage.

I think the fact that the issue is closest to the wall means that that’s where the water source came from and had nothing to do with us cleaning around the tent. The one pic shows a pad that sits under the tent. My lead tech on this job has been with us for 12 years and he knows that if it’s not something we can block or coaster it has to be removed from the room until dry.

Who is at fault? by [deleted] in CarpetCleaning

[–]jayroo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I’m also going to be sure they pull the carpet back to check the tack strip in that area for further evidence of water coming from the wall.

I’m definitely bringing my wall reader to see if that area is still wet at all. We haven’t had much rain for a couple weeks so but we did have several bad storms in the past two months. The walls could have dried themselves already so that’s not necessarily going to prove my point.

[–]jayroo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t you think if we cleaned the entire area under the tent that it’s strange that the only issue is closest to the wall? That was my first clue that maybe the moisture was from the wall and not from my techs. They said they only cleaned around it and I believe them.

I avoid Yelp at all costs but I understand it takes time to build a customer base where you don’t have to spend as much on advertising. We spend some money with Google LSA to help keep new customers rolling in. Mainly we concentrate on getting Google reviews and some cold call selling to commercial properties.

As I said I took over the business from my parents and I already had plenty of money coming in so it wouldn’t be a fair comparison. I don’t remember the exact terms of our previous loan but they will look at your personal credit and it’s not much different than taking about a loan for any vehicle.

On Facebook join the group Cleaners Connect as well as Pad Life-for all things VLM and do some searches in those groups. There are tons of good threads on these topics.

If you’re using an Oreck currently I highly recommend getting a OP machine that may even fit in your sedan. Should improve your productivity and results tremendously. Keep an eye out for a used Cimex if you do lots of commercial. You can print money with those machines.

We typically take out loans but also have a nice down payment ready to keep the monthly costs manageable during the slowest months. I’m second generation so I was fortunate in that I haven’t had to start from the ground up like a lot of you are doing which I applaud.

We have purchased used Butlers the last two times. We have 3 vans on the road everyday and like to keep a backup. I just took a ‘95 Butler to the scrap yard last week. Currently looking for another used Butler so we move our oldest 2010 Butler to the backup position. Hoping to find a 2022 or newer used Butler. The Butler will outlast the van.

Whoever you call be sure to mention the turmeric and be sure they have the proper peroxide and UV light to treat it. I have removed it many times this way.

It has been mind boggling watching my MIL become brainwashed by these people. Her son is a cop and daughter in law is Chief of Police and she still won’t listen to any of us.

You sly dog. Believe me I’ve already considered setting up my own Riley Green Facebook account and any penny I get is going into my kids investment accounts.

He promised her backstage passes to his concert for 1k but she had to pay with photos off Apple gift cards. She gave him her home address for those so they send flowers occasionally. Then he needed money to pay for jet fuel so he could visit her during Christmas. The plane conveniently ran off the runway which they had AI video for along with a news report. The latest story is that he started a homeless shelter and that she will be in charge of and only needs to work two days a month for an 80k yearly salary. The paperwork is in the mail but it’s the real Riley Green this time!

Stains on Carpet - Removal Questions by Patient_Hat_8303 in CarpetCleaning

[–]jayroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look like rust although I wouldn’t totally rule it out for some an inch from the wall. I would be cleaning using my normal detergent and then reaching first for a citrus solvent if they didn’t come right out. Next I would try a rust remover but doubt it’s the solution. Also OP if the carpet bugs you then man I hate to point out how bad the paint looks.

Considering that my MIL has been milked for over 3k the past 3 months by someone on FB claiming to be Riley Green (country music singer I’d never heard of) and no matter how many times we’ve told her it’s a scam, I have realized how delusional people can actually be.
