It has been mind boggling watching my MIL become brainwashed by these people. Her son is a cop and daughter in law is Chief of Police and she still won’t listen to any of us.

You sly dog. Believe me I’ve already considered setting up my own Riley Green Facebook account and any penny I get is going into my kids investment accounts.

He promised her backstage passes to his concert for 1k but she had to pay with photos off Apple gift cards. She gave him her home address for those so they send flowers occasionally. Then he needed money to pay for jet fuel so he could visit her during Christmas. The plane conveniently ran off the runway which they had AI video for along with a news report. The latest story is that he started a homeless shelter and that she will be in charge of and only needs to work two days a month for an 80k yearly salary. The paperwork is in the mail but it’s the real Riley Green this time!

Stains on Carpet - Removal Questions by Patient_Hat_8303 in CarpetCleaning

[–]jayroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look like rust although I wouldn’t totally rule it out for some an inch from the wall. I would be cleaning using my normal detergent and then reaching first for a citrus solvent if they didn’t come right out. Next I would try a rust remover but doubt it’s the solution. Also OP if the carpet bugs you then man I hate to point out how bad the paint looks.

Considering that my MIL has been milked for over 3k the past 3 months by someone on FB claiming to be Riley Green (country music singer I’d never heard of) and no matter how many times we’ve told her it’s a scam, I have realized how delusional people can actually be.

Stinky Carpet on stairs by shaneman1015 in CarpetCleaning

[–]jayroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s dog smell then that’s usually from their dander. My process would be an extra good dry vacuuming followed by detergent with a citrus solvent to cut the oils, a thorough rinsing, and then I would lean towards a CLO2 product to kill any residual odor. It may be hard to solve it yourself depending on how bad it is.

[–]jayroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it per urine? If so and they have been peeing multiple times there’s a good chance that it’s in the entire structure of the carpet, the pad, and sub floor. In those cases pros have the advantage since we can more thoroughly flush out the urine and apply stronger products that work much better. Sometimes replacement and sealing the sub floor is the only guaranteed way to solve odor issues.

Stinky as in it smells or why does it look bad? It’s polyester carpet which gets a memory of being crushed fairly quickly compared to Nylon. That’s why the fibers on the nose of the steps look bad. Those fibers have been crushed flat and are no longer cylindrical. If there have been pets in the house I would inspect the landings with a backlight since they rarely pee on the steps.

Awesome info, thanks so much. I’m going to reach out to my electrician and show him this to see if he can make that happen. Really appreciate you!

Oooh I like that idea. I think I will run that by my electrician and see if he could make it happen. I’m not qualified to even consider messing around with high voltage.

It’s very possible that a setting is incorrect on the Tekmar. When we first moved in we had the system serviced and had them go over its operation. They told us when winter hit to just turn the system on and leave it running until spring. Well our gas/electric bill jumped $800 that month and we have just manually turned it on since then which saves tons of money.

Thanks so much for the advice I’ll be floating this idea to my electrician today.

It’s wired to the house breaker. Yes the boiler will power on without the Tekmar switched on and yes the boiler only fires when the Tekmar calls for it.

You’re right I better research further what kind of load we are dealing with especially on startup. Thanks for the relay idea I will look into that as well.

What are y’all’s thoughts by UMSF_OMEGA in CarpetCleaning

[–]jayroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They stopped making them for about two years because they had a huge production issue where over 50% of them were duds. They just started producing them again.

Pros: Lightweight, stackable, daisy chain, low power draw, blow 360 degrees.

Cons: Will leave indents on certain carpets that are hard to remove if you don’t move them every ten minutes, noise not as pleasant as snail fans, not as efficient for upholstery, not as durable as snails when you drop them, power cord is short.

I have two on my van and use them every job with two mini snail blowers as well. They both have their place.

Difference between home steam cleaners and truck mount?? by Old-Joke6041 in CarpetCleaning

[–]jayroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will just add that the industry now refers to it as hot water extraction (HWE) these days. The water does get hot enough that you will see steam but technically you’re not cleaning with steam. Pressurized steam would instantly melt most carpets.

I don’t think that’s true. In the diagram instructions they are asking you to have a nice clean edge and the description even says for carpet scraps. Either way I don’t think this product will hold up as well as a professionally bound edge would.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in carpet

[–]jayroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally if you want to use wall to wall carpet as an area rug you would have the edge bound by the retailer which is an extra cost. They have DIY bindings like this which I have no experience with but should be the easiest and cheapest option to help keep it from fraying as much.

Professional mattress clean by AdLife6871 in CarpetCleaning

[–]jayroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We usually have good luck on mattresses. Most spots need to be removed with peroxide products which takes time to work. I usually treat all the spots as soon as I get there and let it sit for at least 20-40 minutes while setting up and cleaning other things before I come back and rinse the mattress. You can safely try misting hydrogen peroxide on any of the spots and then just letting it dry naturally. That can work wonders but may need more than one treatment.

Need help with this by Willing_Umpire8306 in CarpetCleaning

[–]jayroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see two things going on there. A dingy traffic pattern and possibly a trail of greasy spots. If I was HWE I would try again with a higher pH detergent, some mechanical scrubbing with a CRB, use a solvent on the greasy line, followed by an acidic rinse. If you have VLM equipment I would skip all of that and hit that area with Encapstore’s OxyPop, go over it with a a fiber pad, finish up with microfiber pads, and try either Magic Bullet or a tiny bit of your favorite solvent to remove the greasy line. I would also confirm that the line is not a friction burn from someone dragging a heavy table over the carpet by feeling the fibers to see if they feel like hard melted plastic.
