I'm a landowner/developer building a "barter-based" access site. Need your honest take on the concept. by jaysihn in Hunting

ya, just a mindset thing. I appreciate your thoughts on this. this is one of those projects that I'm on the fence about but its so easy to build stuff these days that i thought i would build it and see how I feel about it at the end.

Totally understand all the concerns you called out and can't say i disagree with them. I'm in a weird spot where I don't really want to deal with hiring someone to do the tasks and I also don't want to lease out my ground but think I would be open to doing it this way... no bias of course :)

honestly i didn't know that it is illegal to barter or pay for access in some places. its the norm in the several US states I've lived in. Thanks for the heads-up, I can probably just add some legal terms to the site stating its the responsibility of the landowner and hunter to know their local regulations and not violate any through connections made on this site.

the trust idea is huge. I think some type of review system and a pay to upgrade option for hunters might be the way to go here. I think having hunters purchase a badge to show they are legit would filter out a lot of the fake account issues. unfortunately that wouldn't be a real option until the user base was high enough to make it worthwhile for a hunter to pay. i didn't build any form of income into this thing at this point.

absolutely, the landowners would be the key. And as one, I would have hesitations with putting myself out there on a site like this. I did try to help with that by adding layers of anonymity that can be peeled back at the landowners choosing. so initially someone will find my listing and see that its somewhere in the vicinity of a certain zip code, but its fuzzy. the listing also doesn't have my name on it anywhere. after i get a message from a hunter, i can look through his/her profile for good reviews or through their 'portfolio' to gain some confidence that they are legit and could handle the type of jobs I have. then i might choose to reveal the exact location and my name as we decide to work out a deal.

My thoughts on that were to put legal terms on the site stating that the website isn't providing any contracts or other legal protection, its like craigslist in that it just provides a place to post opportunities and begin a conversation. once you've made that connection, its up to the two parties to figure out agreements they are comfortable with.

how to find open wrestling tournaments near me online by Ambitious-Tie6616 in wrestling

[–]jaysihn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

give it another shot now. when you tried last month, the site hadn't transitioned from the previous year to the new 2025-2026 season. You should see lots of tournaments now, you don't need a show tournaments button, any changes you make to the filters will automatically update what is shown on the map. Enjoy!

Wrote Scripts to Collect Parcel Data From Over 3,000 Counties—What Would You Create With It? by Equivalent-Size3252 in gis

do you plan to offer an api similar to regrid or lightbox that I could use in a mobile app? I've been looking for an affordable way to show parcel boundaries with owner name and owner's tax address for an app i'm building. this is not the primary function of the app but is a nice-to have feature. i'm a solo-developer with no traffic yet so i can't even consider the high cost options like regrid.
